Unless something unforeseen happens, Jeff Jarrett and his company, Global Force Entertainment will have their day in court this week. Their lawsuit against Impact Wrestling parent company Anthem is scheduled to officially go to trial tomorrow.
At the center of the case is whether Impact Wrestling retained the rights to continue to use footage of Global Force Wrestling's Amped! TV taping footage, which Jarrett (at the time Chief Creative Officer of the company) made the call to use. Jarrett is claiming that after his termination, Impact no longer had those rights. Exacerbating the situation is that Impact had the masters from the GFW footage deleted from their servers, which Jarrett is claiming has prevented him from trademarking the content and is a huge financial loss. Impact has claimed the company only generated $10,000 in revenue from using GFW content and selling it on DVD and PPV. Jarrett is also attempting to wrest the rights to the trademark of his name away from Anthem.
Over the last week, there has been a flurry of activity, including Jarrett's side attempting to add Karen Jarrett to their witness list, which the court did not allow. Jarrett also attempted to have specific instances of his behavior while working for Anthem kept away from the jury, feeling it had no bearing on the ownership and use of the GFW name, trademarks, etc. but the court did not rule in Jarrett's favor on that issue, so his behavior before seeking treatment for his personal issues can be discussed during testimony in the trial.
The two sides had several settlement discussions over the process but were unable to come to terms. Now, unless there is a last second compromise, they will be going before the jury.
