BETTING ODDS POSTED FOR WWE BACKLASH

By Kendall Jenkins on 2020-06-14 12:04:00

The next pay-per-view on the WWE calendar is right around the corner as WWE Backlash is set to go live on Sunday, June 14th. Technically, one of the matches has already happened as the Edge-Randy Orton showdown was pre-recorded on June 7th.

Originally schedule to take place in Kansas City, Missouri, the 15th edition in the Backlash series will now be hosted in Orlando, Florida. Some of the best sports betting sites out there have already posted betting odds on the main matches, so let’s take a closer look at the odds for each contest.

Edge vs Randy Orton

Backlash Betting Odds: Orton -160, Edge +120

Edge and Randy Orton have plenty of history but this iteration of their affair dates back to the Royal Rumble. Edge returned to the scene at the Royal Rumble and ended up eliminating Orton, which set off the feud. That was just the beginning as Edge ended up defeating Orton at the Last Mast Standing match in Wrestlemania 36. We saw them jawing at each other on a Monday Night Raw not long after where Orton’s theory was that Edge beat him in non-traditional matchups, which set up the traditional singles match for Backlash. What’s interesting is that the WWE has billed this as The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever, which is going to be tough to live up to. That’s why they pre-recorded it, to give the fighters as much space and time as they need. Early rumors indicate that it’s a particularly long match.

Orton has come out on the short end of the stick in two straight meetings with Edge but the oddsmakers seem to think he gets the win here.

Drew McIntyre vs Bobby Lashley

Backlash Betting Odds: McIntyre -900, Lashley +500

Bobby Lashley is a massive underdog to the WWE Champion Drew McIntyre in this spot. This is a bout that’s mostly come together over the last month or so. It stemmed from Montel Vontavious Porter nudging Lashley to question why he’s not facing the top dogs in the sport. Following a win by McIntyre where he took care of business against King Corbin, McIntyre stated he wanted to face Lashley, which is how we’ve got to this matchup.

McIntyre is a massive favorite here as it’s been a really long time since he’s lost a match. The last time he lost was in the WWE Tribute To The Troops 2019 Taping back on December 6th of 2019. That was actually a tag team match. The last individual match he lost was in November of 2019. He enters this bout on a 23-fight winning streak, which includes winning the Royal Rumble. The oddsmakers are pretty skeptical that his undefeated streak comes to an end at the hands of Lashley.

Braun Strowman vs The Miz & John Morrison

Backlash Betting Odds: Strowman -1000, The Miz & John Morrison +550

Strowman is an even bigger favorite as he enters this handicap match against The Miz & John Morrison. This all started in the first Smackdown after the Money in the Bank. Strowman worked with Mr. Money to beat The Miz and John Morrison, and then things escalated from there. Miz and Morrison complained that the win was unfair, which eventually led to a one-on-one with Strowman and Miz where Strowman won. Then Morrison jumped in after the match and challenged Strowman to a handicap match at Backlash, which he accepted.

Strowman’s Universal Championship is on the line here but the oddsmakers seem skeptical that Strowman will lose his belt in this one-on-two.

Asuka vs Nia Jax

Backlash Betting Odds: Asuka -500, Nia Jax +300

The Raw Women’s Championship is on the line in this one as Asuka puts the belt up against Nia Jax. Asuka originally won the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, which is traditionally for a contract for a championship match. However, the next Monday Night Raw, the champ at the time – Becky Lynch – announced that she’s leaving for maternity leave and that the ladder match was for the title itself and not just the contract. In this surprising turn, some jockeying for position got underway in terms of the No. 1 contender. Asuka started a feud with Nia Jax but Jax actually had to win a triple threat match against Charlotte Flair and Natalya to earn this shot at Backlash.

Asuka is a sizable favorite here at -500 as she’s clearly expected to get the win. Nia Jax has held the WWE Raw Women’s Championship belt before, though, so it wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the world if she ended up with the win this weekend.
