The WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) is one of the biggest, baddest and most viewed media entertainment companies in the world. They are primarily known for their professional staged wrestling but have also branched out to other entertainment fields like football, movies, and countless other business enterprises. It is the world's leading wrestling organization, hosting more than 500 shows a year, with the roster split into numerous regional touring brands and open to nearly 36 million audiences in over 150 nations. The corporate headquarters of the organization are in Stamford, Connecticut, about 30 miles from New York City, with branches in major cities around the globe.
Over the past year, sports betting has experienced a dramatic growth in the US with eight states already operating in a regulated industry. WWE celebrated a fairly profitable year, with a series of Television agreements valued more than 2 billion dollars for the next five years.
One might not imagine these two organizations to intersect in any way, no matter how much WWE strives for an atmosphere of authenticity when moving toward the sports side of entertainment. However, in fact, there are ways to wager on the results of WWE matches — and no occurrence in the world of WWE can appeal to the world of betting props than the Royal Rumble that takes place on Sunday.
Due to strict control on what can and can't be wagered on, these bets aren't something you'll find advertised on an American bookmaker anytime soon, but a number of overseas bookmakers like Betboss have provided WWE match outcomes for the better part of the last decade. Given the WWE's predetermined existence, the opportunity to alter results before wrestlers step out to the ring (and often even later) provides a distinct atmosphere about betting on WWE than something else that might fall under an entertainment bet.
Offshore bookmakers are leading the way in terms of betting opportunities for the forthcoming Royal Rumbles. Those interested will be able to bet on over 50 different men to win the men's Royal Rumble match and over 45 different women to win the women's Royal Rumble match -- but it goes deeper. Even while Super Bowl bets have continued to evolve through the years as they have attracted further exposure, the offerings from these two platforms this year and a number of others feature betting on the most period spent in the Royal Rumble, most eliminations and chances of reaching the final 4, as well as other wagers.
At the end of the day, all interested parties agree that the allure of being willing to gamble on the WWE is more about the appeal of entertainment than about hitting it big. It's about getting some competition in the game for the teams, trying to find a fair return, so if a victory can be won, the outcome of the night could be a little bit sweeter.
