The dark days of the coronavirus have changed life as people know it. With more than 6,500 reported deaths worldwide, the US is desperately trying to implement measures to get it under control. But some industry experts are saying that coronavirus could lead to an increase in personal injury lawsuits.
Although it may sound far-fetched at first, Joye Law Firm in North Charleston states that many victims of the coronavirus could have a case. It won’t be a surprise to start seeing lawyers advertising for Coronavirus lawsuits in the coming months.
The focus of the legal industry has fallen on the thousands of passengers who were trapped on cruise ships.
These passengers were quarantined on the ship for weeks. Many of them who would go on to contract the virus would later blame both inactions from national governments and what they’ve termed as a ‘giant petri dish’ which evolved through staying in close quarters on the ship.
Joye Law Firm, which was named one of the top law firms in the US, states that although no personal injury claims relating to coronavirus have made their way through the courts yet, the Diamond Princess could become the first case.
Passengers on that ship claim that significant delays in docking and sending vital medical support to the ship led to more passengers becoming infected with the virus.
Reports from the ship claim that passengers continued to mingle as usual, including attending the same buffets en masse. They claim that this frequent interaction occurred due to the fact the passengers on the ship had no other choice.
With other cruise lines being impounded and refused permission to dock, a slew of personal injury cases could be forthcoming as a result of the Diamond Princess case.
Although countries like Italy and Spain have completely shut down and issued states of national emergency, the US has been slow to shut things down.
Even in the middle of March 2020, citizens are continuing to go to work. If an employer fails to close their business and make alternative arrangements for their employees when coronavirus becomes a factor, they could be found to be negligent.
Joye Law Firm, North Charleston personal injury attorneys, says that if an employee believes they were infected with coronavirus due to their working conditions, they should seek out legal representation.
Employers could find themselves being found guilty of not putting in place reasonable protections for their workers.
Joye Law Firm aims to protect local communities against harm. This is why they recently sponsored the Going Places Gala, to empower young people to create positive relationships with caring adults.
They’re also recommending that employers enable remote working, include proper hand sanitizers in the office, and practice limited social distancing in the workplace.
Doing this can not only prevent people from getting sick but also protect their companies from future personal injury lawsuits.
