FULL AEW DYNAMITE ON THE JERICHO CRUISE BLOG

By Anthony Pires on 2020-01-22 20:44:00

We are LIVE (on tape) from the Chris Jericho’s Rock and Wrestling Rager at Sea 2.  Hopefully Tony Schiavone will be in another Hawaiian shirt and HOPEFULLY we’ll get a women’s match of some (hopefully) quality.  We’re doing this spoiler free so anything that’s leaked is completely unknown to this guy.

I do have to give the company credit for giving two major matches away on this cruise.  Moxley v Pac likely could’ve sold some tickets.

SCU vs Kenny Omega & Hangman Page is opening things up.  This worries me a little.  I love me some SCU and I’m worried that they’re going to take the belts off of them for the sake of an angle.  To me, SCU needs those belts a heck of a lot more than Omega & Page.

Useless Trivia: I’ve sailed on the Norwegian Pearl.  Beautiful ship.  I’m still bummed that Scherer wouldn’t put me and Cory up on a working trip to cover this.

PHENOMENAL job by AEW’s production department, making the sun deck look like an honest-to-goodness wrestling arena.  Daniels comes out only to leave.  SCU’s schtick loses something without him and the catchphrase sing-a-long with the crowd.  Why isn’t “tag team specialist” Rick Knox our referee?  Kazarian and Page with some great chain wrestling/brawling to start us off.  Kazarian never ages. Page does NOT look happy at all.

They keep calling Omega the Best Bout Machine.  I understand after the feud with Okada but I honestly think guys like Page, Cody, Dustin and Jericho have looked better while in AEW.  The announcers are FINALLY talking about the 10 second rule in AEW tag team matches, which has been omitted since week 1.  THIS is tag team wrestling as far as I’m concerned.  Have you noticed how both teams are picking their high spots carefully and slowing things down?  Just as I say that Omega and Page do their dueling moonsaults.  Perfect because the match has had time to breathe.

BUCKSHOT LARIAT nails Omega.  Here comes the heel turn.  Damn, Page broke up the pin.  I thought for sure that was it.  SCU gets in some high impact moves during commercial.

Tiger Driver and Omega gets as close to a pin as it gets.  Can’t believe Omega survived the SCULater.  Buckshot Lariat and Hangman Page and Kenny Omega are your new AEW World Tag Team Champions.  Excellent way to start the night off but I’ve got to say I’m surprised AEW had its first ever Title Change on a pre taped show.  SCU NEEDS to win those belts back ASAP. They were really coming into their own as a national act.  For now, they need those belts a hell of a lot.  Very surprised we didn’t get a turn.  Now we get the tried and true “champions who can’t get along” deal

Priscilla Kelly!  I knew she was going to work for them but didn’t realize it was so soon.  Good for her.  Dr. Britt Baker comes out.  Take a shot every time they reference her dentistry.  Twice on the way to the ring.  I wonder if Kelly will do that thing where she pulls out a….you know. Third dentist reference.  They go to the commercial 45 seconds into this.  WHY NOT DO IT RIGHT BEFORE THE MATCH?!?!?  In the picture in picture, Kelly is really laying those chops into Baker.  She’s fundamentally sound as we’ve seen, I’m curious as to how effective AEW will use her.  Baker’s sling blade was not crisp.  The crowd keeps getting bleeped out.  Lockjaw and Britt gets the win.  I just wish she used a glove because it looks unrealistic that her opponent wouldn’t bite her fingers.

Why is Tony Schiavone questioning the win?  WOW Baker pulled out a Starbucks reference as a crappy barista.  Nice promo by Britt UNTIL THEY GO TO A COMMERCIAL!!!!!!  Why?!?!?  The woman is dressing down poor Tony, building up her heel cred and they cut away.

Rant:  They’ve had a rough time of it with the women, let’s be honest.  They finally got the face of the division, one of the faces of the company, on the right track personality-wise.  And how do they handle her first major heel promo?  They cut her off.  I can’t blame TNT because this is pre-taped.  They come back and they’re not even referencing the verbal beat down Schiavone took from her.  No-selling her isn’t the way to get her over.  You can be damn sure that if Brandi Rhodes did it, the booth would be somber right now over the “shocking” things she said.

Time for the Lucha Express vs The Inner Circle.  Marko is wearing a life vest.  You gotta appreciate a man that can laugh at himself.  “Judas” might be my favorite entrance song today.  The cruise passengers are singing right along with it.  Cruises are a blast, boys and girls, I highly recommend you go on one. They’re Stunt OK here, tag him in and use him as a prop, the act loses me when they let him go hold for hold with these guys, like Santana has to at the moment.  Commercial time and Jungle Boy is selling in the corner.  This is the spot Stunt should be in. Perry has so much upside that a hot tag would be explosive.  Now it’s a given that Luchasaurus will be in that spot.

Jericho having some fun at Jungle Boy’s expense.  I have to wonder if Jericho is hurting.  The weight belt is a possible give away of some back issues and, I hate saying this, Jericho’s physique, while much better than mine, doesn’t look good for a World Champion. I’m certainly not going to criticize him as I really think there’s some real pain and hurt going on.

Did Aubrey Edwards accidently count 3 on Stunt’s 450 on Le Champion?  Jericho with the Judas effect for the win.  No Inner Circle victory would be complete with a little bit of the bubbly.

MJF without Wardlow comes out and we’ve got some one-on-one action.  I hope the cruise passengers adhered to MJF’s “don’t engage me” rule on the cruise.  Bad Boy Joey Janela is his opponent and JESUS CHRIST is at ringside again.  Even the Almighty wants to party with Le Champion.  The Bad Boy is definitely the choice of the fans here.  Ever since the lights out match with Omega, Janela’s been noticeably working to be seen as more than a stunt man.  He’d have come out of the Shawn Spears feud stronger if Spears had been booked as any type of threat at all.

Graphic on-screen tells us Moxley v Pac is next.  Looks like they’re getting time.

Superbad Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford with a make out session for the distraction and MJF with a double cross for the win.  Time for MJF to antagonize the revelers.  Cody comes out to confront MJF, but won’t be able to touch him.  This should be creative.  WOW!  MJF mocks Cody’s lisp. Young Bucks with a superkick party and MJF is going in the pool.  Kind of silly but given the setting I can’t complain too much.

We get comments from the new AEW World Tag Team Champions.  Seems as though everyone on planet Earth knows Page is going heel on the Elite…except the Elite.  Page walks away from the celebration.  And shouldn’t Omega be a little angrier at Pac for constantly beating up Michael Nakazawa?

Frank Thomas really want us men to use Nugenix Total T.

Feb 1-5, 2021 is Jericho Cruise III.  Are you listening Dave Scherer?

Moxley’s out next.  Too bad his wife couldn’t join him on the cruise.  Le Champion replaces Tony Schiavone on commentary.  I’ve always loved how Justin Roberts says “JEEEEOOOOOOONNNNN”.  I say have the Inner Circle screw Moxley here, Jericho vs Pac on February 29th would be awesome, and you can do the Jericho/Moxley match on Memorial Day.

I really wish I knew what the crowd is saying to get silenced every 3-4 seconds.  Pac with some vicious cross face forearms.  Jericho just pointed out that, because of the fact that AEW on filming on a pool deck, that the ring is a foot or so higher than usual.  That, along with the much smaller ringside area, has made this a much more “in-ring action” episode of Dynamite.  I can’t argue with the wrestling tonight at all.

Pac and Moxley have found their way to the bar area I think.  The problem here is that if Moxley wins, it negates the serious attack from last week, given Moxley came back a week later to beat a top tier guy.  When Michael Hays blinded Junk Yard Dog in 1981, Dog didn’t come back the following week.  Dude never left his house with out the bandages and sunglasses for about 2-3 months before even shooting the angle where Dog confronted Hayes.

Moxley is starting to seep blood through his bandages, immediately hits a DDT for 2.

Bandage is gone and Moxley just about immediately wins.  Moxley vs Pac at Revolution.  Solid in-ring outing from AEW tonight, I would have imagined the first title change would have a little more impactful than a set up for an unrelated angle.  Cory and I will be back later tonight with the wrap up
