THE NEW DAY ALMOST HAD A FOURTH MEMBER AND A DIFFERENT NAME: NEW DAY FEEL THE POWER PODCAST RECAP

By Paul Jordan on 2019-12-09 15:29:00

The latest episode of "The New Day: Feel the Power" podcast is now available.

The show opens with Xavier Woods, Big E, and Kofi Kingston welcoming us this week.  The trio talks about their excitement going into this week as they will break down the list of names they were given by creative to "go and do something with".  Kofi talks about how he is quite the hoarder and keeps all of his wrestling paraphernalia.  But the guys are glad that Kofi is a hoarder so they can do this today.  Woods begins singing some dramatic music from The Little Mermaid to hype up the reveal.  Kofi says that is fitting because a lot of these are music based names.  The first few names mentioned are "The Beat " and "The Tribe." Kingston says you can't call them The Tribe as they are a group of African-American males. This leads Woods to sing those words in the style of WCW's American Males theme which the guys agree that would've been okay. Kingston jokes that one point they wanted to feud with American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable in NXT) and be called African-American Alpha but that would've been okay because they're calling themselves that.

The next name on the list was Perfect Harmony. This leads to Woods joking about Big E having perfect pitch in which the big man says he may never rap or sing again. The next name is " Healing Through Harmony" which The New Day says is the worst name on the list. Kingston gets a little aggravated and talks about how the name is the most important thing and brings up the point, how are you supposed to chant that It has too many syllables. E brings up that the name doesn't make any sense considering they don't sing. So how are they Healing through Harmony? For that same reason,  E is perplexed why they received all music based names in the first place.

The next name is the "Bumping B-Boys" which they discuss doing dance moves with Dr. Tom Prichard. Then we hear about "The Wonders" in which they joked about putting on suits and doing a doo-wop group sort of thing with dance moves. Xavier Woods mentions that he did do some of that kind of thing. So E, and Kofi blame him for that name being on the list. Woods says he didn't do that until after the list was published. Kofi runs down more names such as "The Miracles", "The Sensations", "The Modern Marvels", "The Vibe and Vision."  Kofi asks what was the vision for any of these names. Xavier Woods says that one of the other names was "The Commotions".

Kingston asked the question when you put these names on paper and submit them did they realize it was somebody's livelihood on the line. Xavier says that this was someone's work assignment for the day and they just turned it in, with Big E, saying that when you're paid to do the work but you not paid for the quality of the work, it shows. The guys do impressions of creative laughing maniacally at the list of names revealed so far.  Woods goes on to say that the top of their likelihood is not hyperbole.  Xavier feels that if things went the way creative wanted, he would've been fired.  Xavier says that Kofi and Big E would've been safe in WWE but he would've been gone.  The guys disagree.  Kofi says the list of names is crazy.

The guys revealed the trio names including "Harmonies Three", "Trillogy" and "Trivers".  Big E reiterates that he's glad Kofi is a hoarder because he does remember some of these. E says most of their conversations were through emails and have most of those.  Then they mentioned the acronym KBX using the first letters of the name.  Big E says he will wipe his butt with that name, if you can put it on toilet paper.  The guys mentioned a similar situation was with Paige, Charlotte and Becky with "Team PCB" after they couldn't copyright "Submission Sorority" as it was the name of a porn website) when they debuted.  Big E talks about the women in the group and their accomplishments. The trio jokingly says that the women were celebrating when they heard the name. The New Day says sarcastically creative was determined to use an acronym for a trio once the name was put on the cutting room floor for them.

The next set of names are inspirational ideas. These names include "The House of Light", The Triumph", "The Beacon", and "New City". Xavier wonders what about these names states that three men revamped themselves. Kofi just wonders how these names even made the list. We then hear another suggestion in that group of names "The Cause"The guys say that's not that bad.  Big E jokes that he may use the name if he turns on Kofi and Xavier and create his own group.  There was also "The Voice" which would have proceeded the hit NBC music competition series and "The Regulators" which again, everyone thinks is not a bad name.  Although Big E says he would have used it if Warren G was involved.

We then hear another suggestion "The House of Positive Energy."  or "HOPE". Kofi calls the name gross and begins chanting the acronym. Xavier goes on to say that the reason why he feels they were booting the very beginning of New Day is that it's cool to be cynical these days. It's cool to criticize and bash something on social media instead of being positive. He says having the name House of Positive Energy would've gotten them heat and booed out of the building. The guys say they get saying that The New Day's original preacher gimmick was not enjoyable and they wouldn't want to see that.

Xavier then continues reading the list.  Next up, "House Of Purpose".  Kofi says that the name would not work when doing promos.  Kingston says he's getting angrier as they go down the list.  Big E takes a little Bit of the blame for that name due to the preacher's voice, he would do from time to time.  Xavier agrees and sarcastically says they wanted to be gamers at one point.  Big E says that was not going to happen.  Then we hear some more names from the inspirational list including " The Calling", The Voices of Triumph" and "The Prime". But the last name wouldn't have flown because of Darren Young and Titus O'Neil, the Primetime Players. Big E mentions that originally Titus was supposed to be a part of the group, saying that creative was trying to force him in. The New Day mention they did tag matches with O'Neil for a period of time and they had to put up pictures at one time where E was pointing to everyone except Titus. Everyone says they love Titus and even mention his book but didn't want him in the group.

We hear more names like "The Charge", "The Reach", "The Concept", "The Achievers" and "The Sentinels". The guys generally like "The Sentinels" due to the X-Men connection, Big E mentions the TV show "The Sentinel". Kofi then says more suggestions like "Genesis", "Born-Again, "Revelations", "Nation Of Salvation", "The Congregation", "The Advent", "Trinity", "Exodus" "The Redeemers" "The Crusaders" "The Almighty" "Modern Day Saints", and "The A-Men". Kofi, Big E and Xavier think that last one could've worked if they got Kirk Franklin involved. The next suggestion was "Brothers of Xavier" which Big E was not a fan of. Xavier asked why and it leads into a funny exchange between the two. More names mentioned include "X-Communication" and "SOS" which stands for "Save Our Souls.". Kofi then reiterates that the whole purpose was to reinvent themselves and that was what he was already doing. Xavier mentions that at one point on Wikipedia it says that Kofi was related to rapper Sean Kingston which people brought up in radio interviews at times leading to. Kingston's frustration.

The group then goes into a discussion on the next name "The Million Man Ministry" with Xavier stating that it brings way too many racial overtones. Big E asked him to elaborate. Xavier says he loves being black, but he wanted to create something that was bridging a lot of different kinds of people together. Big E jokingly says he may use that name when he turns on the group, mentioning that he may include Cedric Alexander, The Street Profits and Tyler Breeze. Xavier says he likes Big E's pitch and says there's a difference when someone else presents that to you on a piece of paper, especially if it's racially charged than if you decide to do it yourself.  If it comes from a place of joy, love and positive energy then it's a whole different context than someone else telling you this is how I see you.

More names come with  "Resurrection" with three different spellings. The guys say they didn't know which one was going to be the correct one or it would be included with hyphens or slashes. Also, there was "Penance" which the group likes and Big E thinks it would be cool to put hands on the people. Kofi and Xavier say he can't do that. They mentioned how they used to fall out but they can't do that anymore. Xavier Woods and Kofi then recounted a story of a young E fainting during a sermon at an old folks home when hens Necessary", "New Way" and of course "New Day" Kofi tells the story of sending a text message to the guys saying that should be the name after learning that was the title of their theme music. This leads to talk of the creative team in their long list of contributions. Kofi says the list with hot garbage. But Big E defends them by saying it's not easy as they have to come up with every superstar idea with many of the roster. And Xavier explains when there aren't that many people that look like you and have the same life experience. The process can be challenging to get your vision across. Big E ads that he is pretty sure they were not supposed to make it, saying that and they were not a priority in the grand scheme of things. He states that if they were the 6 to 8 guys in the "Golden Circle" that were always protected and always looked after we would've been treated better with the names. They were just guys trying to get on TV. No one expected them to be anything more than a mid card faction who would last a few months and fail. Xavier says that baffles his mind because all the group was trying to do is bring value to the show, so to hear that they are not a priority was a little disheartening. Kofi says that they are essentially "the Saudi 20" meaning they are taken care of and listened to for their creative ideas. And that is because of their hard work in their willingness to take a risk.

Xavier states on next week's podcast we will hear their story on taking the initial risk once put together to be themselves.
