One of the favorite Twitter account of pro wrestling enthusiasts, WWE On Fox has been experiencing its fair share of controversy. The most recent debacle took place earlier this week after the account administrators posted a photo to promote the RAW that took place on Monday. The photo features the Japanese professional wrestler and champion Kairi Sane, alongside RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch, WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins, American professional wrestler Erick Rowan, and WWE Hall of Famers Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan.
The controversial tweet, which was later deleted, was spurred by a fan asking, “Where are the people of color,” to which the WWE On FOX account administrators responded with “What do you think Kairi Sane is?” The Japanese superstar technically falls within Google’s loose definition of a “person of color,” which states that he or she is “a person who is not white or of European parentage."
The administrators of the WWE On FOX Reddit account later apologised for the tweet: "It was a bad tweet our on end. We shouldn't have even replied, or we could've used other examples like The Street Profits, R-Truth etc. But we just should've stayed quiet. Mistakes happen, and this was on us." WWE On FOX wrote on Reddit.
The WWE On Fox Twitter account was also in the news last week after criticising the WWE RAW crowd for their “What?” chants during the Rusev/Jerry Lawler segment. “Tweets are a reflection of what is happening in the world in real time. This means that it is common for people to post tweets on the spur of the moment,” says tech expert from thegoodestate.com, Michelle Davis. “Unfortunately, this can often lead to tweets that can be found offensive or controversial by others.”
