HOW WOMEN'S WRESTLING HAS EVOLVED IN TERMS OF POPULARITY

By Kendall Jenkins on 2019-09-30 12:01:00

The Real Reasons Why Women’s Wrestling Is So Popular

If you’ve ever wondered why women’s wrestling is so popular, you don’t have to anymore. We did some research and found out why this sport is rated so highly.

Women's Wrestling Has Become a Source of Empowerment and Connectivity

While wrestling for men is enjoyed thoroughly due to its brutish nature, people find women's wrestling entertaining due to its feline and powerful features. Not only skinny white blondes but plus-sized black women, too, enjoy women’s wrestling.

Viewers discover a sense of empowerment derived from the energy that female wrestlers emanate in the ring. The wrestlers are surrounded by awestruck admirers who don’t objectify them. Instead, they simply enjoy the thrilling attacks.

Dating for Widowed and Single People

Wrestling, to this day, is considered an extreme and adult-oriented sport. Interestingly, this comes as no surprise. Watching hyped up wrestlers beating up each other into pulp is something that kids and teenagers should better be off without.

On the other hand, adults, including all committed couples, desperate singles, and widowed people, form the significant fan base of female wrestling. This is primarily because of its action-filled and magnetic nature.

Moreover, dating for widowed men and women has been given a solid opportunity by women's wrestling. Since women feel more inclined towards watching female superstars wrestle, men who share the same passion can quickly look for new partners!

The Modern Notion of Women's Wrestling

Previously, wrestling was solely known for the glorification of masculinity and aggression. Women's participation in this sport was considered a source of vile sexual objectification and male satisfaction. They would tantalizingly strut around the ring, sway their hips, blow flying kisses and strike alluring poses just to get the male audience's attention and add tension to the match.

However, as times have progressed, women have shrugged off their act as just props and have slowly conquered the ring and the limelight. It is no more about male adulation. Instead, the expression of feminine power and strength is the driving force behind the popularity and support of women's wrestling. The feminist movement has breathed a new life into women's wrestling history and representation. They’re not just remorseless cat-fighters but are living human beings with an opinion and character, too. Some popular female wrestlers these days are:

  • Mercedez Blaze.

  • Sasha Banks.

  • Charlotte Flair.

  • Ronda Rousey.

  • Becky Lynch.

African American Women and Wrestling

The inclusivity of African American women is something that you must absolutely admire when it comes to wrestling. Back in the day in society, it was a norm to shaming women for their size or skin color. When wrestling for white women was still in its developing phases, African American women struggled relentlessly to get their fair share of participation too. As we observe today, women of color, regardless of their size or darkness, are known to seize the ring with their strength. Some of them are:

  • Kharma.

  • Midnight.

  • Queen Sharmell.

  • Naomi.

As wrestling becomes more inclusive for women, it is gaining more popularity. If you’re a young woman with wrestling aspirations, there’s no need to be afraid of taking the wrestling world by storm anymore!
