7 MONEY-MAKING HOBBIES TO TRY IN 2020

By Kendall Jenkins on 2019-09-23 19:32:00

2020 is coming up right around the corner, and if you’re not excited to see this year’s pun on 20-20 vision be physically realized in the form of oversized glasses, maybe you should be. Because, as they say, every year, “New year, new me!” But if you’re not looking to invest in those glasses that’ll be useful for maybe a week (accounting for late New Year’s celebrations), investing in some new hobbies might be more fulfilling in the long run.

A common New Year’s resolution is better money management. But if you’re also looking to try new some new hobbies, you might have to make some trade-offs. Fortunately, there are many ways to do both!

If you’ve got some already existing hobbies, or want to try out some new ones, there are ways that you can make money from it. Many hobbies can be translated into services that’ll get you paid so that you can do both at once. Some general ways to do this are to do your hobby competitively, like if you’re passionate about sports, or to get commissioned, which can be useful for hobbies like a painting.

With the new year coming up, it might be time to try new things. So, if you want to find a new passion or just a new fun thing to do and make money from it, here’s 7 fun hobbies that you can get paid for:

1. Photography

If you already love taking photos, it might be time you start making some money off of it. There are a lot of ways to turn a photography hobby into a business, but you can always start by putting together a portfolio.

A good place to start offering services might be for family portraits and senior photos. You could also try selling prints or entering photo contests.

2. Blogging

For a few years now, blogging has been a growing field – you can find anything from lifestyle blogs to political blogs. And nowadays, you can turn it into a business by pairing up with companies to promote services or through ads.

A great thing about blogging is that it doesn’t cost much to start, so even if you’re not making much money for a while, you can afford to take the time to grow your blog.  Blogging is also a great way to document and showcase other hobbies. For example, you could blog about traveling or cooking.

3. Online games and casinos

According to Adrian Sireca at OnlineCasinoGems, in addition to regular gambling, online gambling can make you a lot of money (but you might lose a lot too). He says: “Unlike gambling at a casino, there are some online games that will pay you to play. There are sites where you can find great bonuses for just signing up for a free account. And having the benefit of being online, you can reap these bonuses from the comfort of your couch.”

On the other hand, if you are a fan of going to actual casinos and playing the actual games, this might also be an option. According to Weekly Slots News, new casino games have recently released. So, if you like the thrill of high-risk, high-reward style games, but are tired of more common games, this might be something to try.

Even if it doesn’t become a regular hobby, trying out gambling might at least give you a really cool story. And if you’re worried about losing all your money, you could make it into a game to see how much you can make from a couple of dollars or even a few cents. According to Gambling News Magazine, a Finnish slot player once made millions from only 25 cents.

4. Gardening

A lot of people find that gardening can be a very relaxing hobby. The experience of being outside and working with your hands to take care of plants and help them grow can be especially fulfilling.

If you’re looking to make money from gardening, you can sell plants (i.e. succulents, house plants) or even fruits and vegetables. A great place to try to sell your products might be a farmer’s market or through an online platform.

5. Professional Gaming

Although professional gaming might take up a bit more time, especially to build up the skill, if you love playing video games or already spend quite a lot of time gaming, you could turn it into a side job.

There are two primary fields of professional gaming: playing to win and playing for entertainment. These differ in how you get paid. For people who play to win, they can win money by competitive gaming and getting sponsored. On the other hand, you can also stream your games and get paid based on subscribers and ads.

Professional gaming, while it can be rewarding, is also a more difficult hobby to turn into monetary success. But if you’ve got the passion for it and are willing to put in the effort to build up the skill, it can be rewarding.

6. Coding

Learning how to code is considered one of the most useful and applicable skills in the job market. A lot of businesses are looking for web developers and software developers, and they’ll pay a lot of money for it. Even if you’re not looking to get a job from coding and just see it as more of a hobby, you can always use coding skills to help you develop your own business or do freelance work.

Even without considering the monetary benefits of coding, learning how to code can be really helpful for improving your problem-solving skills, and it might give you a new perspective on the tech industry and on new technology.

7. Home Brewing

Homebrewing can be a lot of fun, and you can learn a lot from it. Whether you’re brewing beer or kombucha, if you love what you make, chances are other people will too. So, if you plan to make more than you can consume on your own, why not make some extra cash by selling the rest?

If you want to make it a more professional business, you can also invest in some nice packaging or try creating new flavors and recipes to reach a wider audience.

Generally, if you’re passionate enough about anything, you can make it work. Money-making Hobbies are a great way to do what you love without breaking the bank. And if you take the time to build up your personal brand, there’s a good chance other people will notice, giving you the opportunity to provide a service to someone without feeling like you’re actually working.

And that’s the best part about money-making hobbies. As they say, “if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Hobbies like these can be really fulfilling, and you won’t have to worry about whether or not you can afford to take the time to focus on what you love.
