WWE and Netflix's first collaboration, a family film titled The Main Event, officially finished shooting yesterday in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The Main Event tells the story of a ten-year old boy who is bullied but dreams of growing up to become a WWE professional wrestler. However, he gets to live his dream earlier when he discovers a magical Luchador mask and naturally, becomes involved with WWE NXT..
WWE NXT star Babatunde has been cast in the role of the lead villain of the film. NXT star Keith Lee will have a tremendously important and large role in the film. One source noted that they wouldn't be surprised to see Lee get a big push timed with the release of the film.
Otis of Heavy Machinery, Sheamus, The Miz, Beth Phoenix, Mauro Ranallo and Kofi Kingston have filmed scenes for the film.
A number of local independent wrestlers are were utuilized in scenes this week and we are told that Ace Steele (who played Donald Trump many years ago on Raw and recently was a Guest Coach at the WWE Performance Center seemed to be producing/agenting matches involving those for the film.
The Main Event is slated to be released next year.
WWE recently announced the Netflix comedy series The Big Show Show (starring Hornswoggle, just kidding). We are told by one source who has seen the initial scripts that the show resembles "a Kevin James sort of sitcom comedy" but with Show in that lead role. We are told by those who has seen the initial scripts that they have been very funny. The official plot for the series: "When the teenage daughter of The Big Show, a retired world-famous WWE Superstar comes to live with him, his wife and two other daughters, he quickly becomes outnumbered and outsmarted. Despite being 7 feet tall and weighing 400 pounds, he is no longer the center of attention."
