SPOILERS: PRO WRESTLING-RELATED EASTER EGGS IN 'HOBBS & SHAW'

By Mike Johnson on 2019-08-09 15:11:00

With The Rock's latest film Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw hitting its second week of release in theaters, David Curameng sent along the following pro wrestling-related Easter Eggs and references from the film

  • In the opening action sequence, Hobbs (The Rock) mentions that he's going to "open up a can of whoop-ass" on the bad guys. A nod to Stone Cold Steve Austin.
  • Near the end of Act 1, Hobbs's daughter, Sam (Eliana Sua) jokes with her dad on FaceTime that she knows when he is concerned about something because he does "that eyebrow thing." Hobbs jokes that he doesn't know what she's talking about or how to do it. They continue talking. At the end of this scene, Hobbs does indeed do The People's Eyebrow to Sam.
    • A good majority of the crowd in my theater instantly knew the reference and laughed after Sam mentioned it.
  • Hobbs does the "stick a boot right up your candy ___" promo quite a few times throughout the movie without actually saying "candy ____". Instead of the infamous WWE word, he mentions a different object every time. It's usually in his bickering with Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham).
  • There is a picture of Rocky Johnson near the old computer they were working on while in Samoa.
  • In Act 3, when the big showdown between Hobbs, Shaw, and the Samoans fight the bad guys of the movie, "The Eteon", Roman Reigns's character, Mateo, does a few signature Roman moves: Samoan Drop, Spear, and an "OOAH!" war chant immediately afterwards.
  • Hobbs does a German suplex to Brixton (Idris Elba) to finish the final fight scene.
