PREVIEW: WWE SUMMERSLAM 2019

By Kendall Jenkins on 2019-08-08 08:07:00

The eyes of the wrestling world will be on Canada on August 11 as the 32nd WWE SummerSlam takes place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

The event once again features a host of title matches, including what could be a stellar Universal Championship bout between Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins.

AJ Styles and Ricochet should produce an epic contest for the United States Championship, while there is a tasty bout in the women’s division that will be well worth keeping an eye on.

Read on as we preview some of the best matches scheduled on this year’s card.

Brock Lesnar vs Seth Rollins - WWE Universal Championship

Lesnar is favourite on the betting lines at 888 NJ to retain his title, but Rollins will fancy his chances of upsetting the odds.

Rollins took the belt off Lesnar at Wrestlemania, but The Beast successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to bag a rematch at WWE Extreme Rules where he regained the title.

The Architect won an All-Star Top 10 Battle Royal to get another shot at Lesnar at SummerSlam, but it would be a surprise to see the belt change hands again.

AJ Styles vs Ricochet - United States Championship

Three-time US champion Styles faces Ricochet in another repeat of a match-up from Extreme Rules and this one promises to be a classic.

Ricochet came through a gauntlet match to secure another title opportunity, coming in as the last entrant and pinning Andrade with a 630.

Styles remains one of the best workers in the WWE and although Ricochet is expected to provide a stern challenge ‘The Phenomenal’ should come out on top.

Becky Lynch vs Natalya – Raw Women’s Championship

Canadian fans will be eager to see a surprise result in the Raw Women’s Championship at SummerSlam as Natalya takes on champion Becky Lynch.

The pair have a long history that pre-dates their time in the WWE and they have been exchanging ‘pleasantries’ on social media in the run-up to their latest match.

With her Hart Family background Natalya is likely to have plenty of support this weekend and this one could be set up to see the belt change hands.

Kofi Kingston vs Randy Orton – WWE Championship

It has been a long road to the top for Kofi Kingston, but his reign as WWE champion could come to an end at SummerSlam.

Orton pinned Kingston during a six-man tag-team match on SmackDown in July and is fancied to repeat the trick in Toronto.

The 13-time champion was narrowly edged out of a shot at the Universal Championship by Rollins and can gain compensation by defeating Kingston.
