MORE ON WWE'S NEW NETFLIX FILM INCLUDING NXT STAR GETTING A MOVIE ROLE

By Dave Scherer on 2019-06-19 14:23:00

Earlier today, WWE and Netflix officially announced the commencement of filming for their first collaboration, a family film titled  The Main Event, which is shooting now in Vancouver.

As previously reported on PWInsider.com, The Main Event tells the story of a ten-year old boy who is bullied but dreams of growing up to become a WWE professional wrestler.  However, he gets to live his dream earlier when he discovers the secret to having super-strength.  I

n the original version of the film, he eats magically-powered John Cena breakfast cereal, but we are told that the most recent version of the screenplay has eliminated that, coming up with another way to give the lead character super powers.   There is no word if John Cena, who was to have a cameo late in the film, will appear.

WWE announced today that Sheamus, The Miz and WWE Champion Kofi Kingston have roles in the film.  Sheamus and Miz were in the original screenplay.  Bray Wyatt was also featured in the original screenplay, so it may be that Kofi is replacing his role.

The film will feature at least one WWE NXT event over the course of the story.  PWInsider.com can exclusively report that  NXT star Keith Lee as well as announcers Mauro Ranallo and Beth Phoenix are also set for roles in the film.  There may be additional WWE talents added to the film as they get closer to filming wrestling-centric scenes and/or update the screenplay.
