6/15 AIW CHANDLER BIGGINS MEMORIAL TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT REPORT FROM CLEVELAND

The Chandler Biggins Memorial Tag Team Tournament

The Odeon

Cleveland, OH

June 15, 2019 afternoon

The event began with Steve Guy, AIW ring announcer, paying tribute to the late Chandler Biggins with the participating wrestlers surrounding the ring.

Young Studs (Bobby Beverly and Eric Ryan) vs The Production (Eddy Only and Derek Director)

The referee took special care to check Eric Ryan for contraband and found something. The Young Studs keep the advantage for most of the beginning of the match, so Derek Director asked for multiple retakes and set changes, which never helped the members of The Production. All the early advantage didn’t matter, as The Production gained the win with a double-team move on Eric Ryan. Eddy Only was clearly favoring his ankle after the match.

PME (Philly Collins and Marino Tenaglia) vs Weird World (Alex “Worldwide” Kellar and Evan “Weird Body” Adams)

Weird World won last year’s Biggins Memorial Tournament and were able to cash in to win the tag titles as a result. The story here is that PME and Weird World are all “Chandler Biggins guys,” all trained together, and are buddies, so they knew each other’s moves and were able to counter or mirror the moves. PME hit Sunset Dreams (an elevated Paydirt) on Weird Body to get the win and move on.

Rip City Shooters (Wes Barkley and Joshua Bishop) vs The Jollyville F**k-Its (Russ Myers and T-Money)

All of the graphics called them “The Boys from Jollyville.” Before the match, Steve Guy announced this match was now under “F*ck-It Rules.” Wes Barkley was able to schoolboy T-Money to get the pin. As Barkley celebrated, the referee called Steve Guy to inform that F**k-It Rules also means two out of three falls. T-Money hit a pounce on Barkley immediately to tie the falls up. Russ Money hit a cannonball from the top on Joshua Bishop to win the third fall and move on.

To Infinity and Beyond (Cheech Hernandez and Colin Delaney) vs The Spirit Squad (Mikey and Kenny)

The Spirit Squad didn’t let Steve Guy do the introductions as they heeled the crowd. To Infinity and Beyond are the current AIW Tag Team Champions and are in the tournament to block another team from getting the any-time/anywhere title shot. The Spirit Squad became de facto babyfaces against To Infinity and Beyond. Cheech threw powder in Kenny’s eyes, and Delaney stacked him up to get the pin. And the Squad get a “Please Come Back” chant.

During intermission, Steve Guy and Matt Wadsworth ran down the rest of the card, mentioning that the finals of the tournament are essentially a rematch from the Slumber Party Massacre from Wrestlemania weekend. Eddie Kingston would occasionally interject with his conspiracy theories about the referee, Dave the Potato. Another funny moment, upon finding out he was wrestling Tim Donst later that night, Eddie Kingston said he would only do so if he fought AIW owner John Thorne in a death match at Wrestlerager. John Thorne, who was nearby, immediately said no to that. Kingston also ran down Steve Guy numerous times for not waking him up that morning.

Manders vs Twan Tucker

The NXTwan chants continued, based on what happened at the NXT tapings last week. Full-on hoss fight, trading forearms, chops, shoulder tackles, and headbutts. An absolute nasty moments as Manders dropped Twan on his head in a suplex attempt. Manders grabbed his cowbell, but as junior referee Xavier Franklin grabbed it away, Twan hit the spear to get the pin.

Lucha Rules: Arthur MacArthur, Chuck Stone, Eric Taylor, and Mikey Montgomery vs. Tim Donst, Dr. Daniel C. Rockingham, Brian Carson, and Parker Pierce

MacArthur, Stone, Taylor, and Montgomery are the newest graduates of the AIW Academy. Tim Donst got the win, making Taylor tap to From Dusk to Donst. After the match, Donst attacked two of the other new graduates, causing Dom Garrini, head trainer of the AIW Academy, to leave commentary to run off Donst and challenge him to a Submit or Surrender match at Absolution.

Absolute Title Match: PB Smooth vs Tom Lawler (c)

This is PB Smooth’s title rematch after losing the title to Tom Lawlor in a four-way match at Slumber Party Massacre. Lawler used his grappling advantage, Smooth used his size and strength advantage. A distraction by Tre Lamar backfired as Lawlor schoolboyed Smooth to get a three count and retain the title.

Finals of the Chandler Biggins Memorial Tag Team Tournament: The Production vs The Jollyville F**k-Its vs PME vs To Infinity and Beyond

Danhausen substituted for Eddy Only, who injured his ankle in the first round. This match is elimination rules.

To Infinity and Beyond was eliminated fairly quickly when Cheech hit PME with the title belt.

The Production eliminated The Jollyville F**k-Its after a code-breaker/running knee to Russ Myers.

PME pinned Derek Director with Sunset Dreams.

PME were presented the trophies by Chandler Biggins’ mother, Patty Wilson. Philly Collins took the mic and thanked Chandler Biggins for believing in them. He said, they won’t jump the champs from behind and surprise them: August 2, at Absolution, they’re cashing in their shot.

Notes: AIW President Matt Wadsworth took the lead as play by play and Frankie Flynn, Eddie Kingston, The Duke, Dom Garrini, Marko Stunt, Colin Delaney, and Tim Donst rotated on color commentary. During the event, John Thorne (@johnthorneaiw) tweeted out: “These guys are performing at a high level for the level of hangovers in the locker room right now.”
