WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TODAY: THE WWE SUPER SHOWDOWN TIP SHEET

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson & Richard Trionfo on 2019-06-06 00:54:00

Here is the current lineup for Friday’s Super ShowDown event from Saudi Arabia is (and this is the order listed on WWE.com so don’t blame me for putting the Title matches third and fourth) and our takes on what will happen.

Dave: It’s no secret that I am not excited at all for this show.  WWE doing business in Saudi Arabia, given they way that country treats people with dissenting opinions, just rubs me the wrong way.  But, it’s my job to cover it so I shall.

The Undertaker vs. Goldberg

Dave: A match for the aged…..er I mean ages!  Seriously, two guys that could be AARP members in the main event tells us all we need to know about this show.  The Saudis want the old stars that they know, so here they are.  I expect Taker wins.  I hope that this one has a lot of bells and whistles because I don’t need to see these two go 20 minutes.  Or maybe even 20.

Mike: Honestly, the best thing that can happen is this.  They face off.  They brawl.  Goldberg goes for the spear.  Taker chokeslams him.  Goldberg no sells it.  He spears Taker.  Taker sits up.  They face off.  They go back and forth.  Taker goes for the tombstone but Goldberg escapes.  He spears Taker.  Jacknife. 1-2-3.  Short and sweet.

Richard:  The entrances will be longer than the match.  Taker will probably be back for the next Saudi show so give him the win so he can defend the “International Title” against another icon of the 90s.

Triple H vs. Randy Orton

Dave: Speaking of people that the Saudis know in top matches….  I expect that these two will have to go a little longer due to who is in the main event.  This could be booked either way but given that Randy is still the (more) full time talent, it makes sense for him to win.  Of course, if it’s about giving the Saudis a pop, it will go the other way.

Mike: This will be a legends match that will be there for nostalgia, so it really doesn’t matter who gets the win, but honestly, it should be Orton.  HHH loses nothing.  He’s the made man.  Just have a solid 10 minutes and RKO out of nowhere.

Richard:  The crowd should start a ‘Five More Minutes (than we need)’ chant during this match because it seems that every time we see Hunter in the ring, the match is longer than it should be.  I wish Hunter had not responded to Orton’s ‘balls out of your wife’s purse’ comment.  Orton wins and then he can claim the Mr. Hey, How about My Title Match Title to go along with Ms. Time for My Title Match (Charlotte Flair).

Universal Champion Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin

Dave: It is way to see for Rollins to lose his Title in straight up fashion, no matter how much he got beat up on Raw.  Rollins wins here.  Then what happens?  See below.

Mike: Seth retains.

Richard:  I think it would have been funny if Brock’s attack was so severe that Seth was not cleared to travel to Saudi Arabia to screw over Corbin and Lesnar.  If Corbin wins, everyone gets free potato skins at your local TGIFridays.  Rollins should retain and let’s get to Drew and Seth for the title.

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler

Dave: As I have said a few times, Corbin has to win matches to get the Title shot, all Ziggler has to do is come back from a long break and attack the champion.  That begs the question why doesn’t everyone just do that?  Anyway, like with Seth it’s way too soon for Kofi to lose the belt, especially to a guy that comes and goes the way Ziggler does.  I love him as a talent, but I just don’t see him winning here.

Mike: I really feel like Ziggler is here because Kevin Owens said he wasn’t going.  Thus, he’s just a bridge to get through the show, nothing more.  I am told there aren’t any current plans for Dolph beyond this show, so unless that has changed at the last second, Kofi wins with the Trouble in Paradise.

Richard:  After returning to his native country, this is not the time to take the title from Kofi.  I am tired of the ‘it should have been me’ promo in wrestling and it should not be rewarded with a title win.

Money In The Bank Briefcase holder Brock Lesnar lurking

Dave: Brock went from being the most dominant force in WWE to a goof in a few short months.  He doesn’t know the rules of MITB.  He turns it into a boom box.  He beat up the champ and didn’t cash in when he would have clearly won.  At this rate, Kofi will beat Dolph, leave the ring and Brock will cash in on Dolph, the wrong guy!  I just hope if he does cash in, whoever he goes after beats him.  Get rid of the briefcase.

Mike: Brock walks out Champion.

Richard: What if Brock shows up during the Battle Royal and cashes in on R Truth for the 24/7 Title?  The fact that he didn’t cash in after destroying Seth on Monday, he deserves to ‘Corbin’ the cash in.

Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor vs. Andrade

Dave: This one should be really good.  If it’s me, I switch the belt here and have these two feud for a while.  The matches will be great.

Mike: Just give them 20 minutes please.  This is the only thing on the show I feel has a chance to really deliver from inside the ring.  I’d love to see Andrade steal the title and score the win here, because he deserves it, but I am fine with either man getting the win.

Richard:  Since Andrade was the one standing tall on Tuesday night, it should mean that Balor wins.  I am really looking forward to this match.  Do you have Balor lose as the Demon?

Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon

Dave: They won’t need pyro here, just shoot Shane’s sweat into the crowd!  Seriously, Shane beats everyone, all the time, but here is where that needs to end.  Roman has to go over, and Drew McIntyre will probably be there to beat him down when he does.

Mike: Roman will take far longer than he needs to, but he will eventually Superman Punch and pin Shane, but not before Elias, Drew, The Revival, Ross, Joey, Chandler, Tom, Jerry, Wally and The Beaver all hit the ring to interfere.

Richard:  Superman versus Superman Punch.  Roman should win this but you never know when a McMahon is involved.  If Shane is going to win, it should be Roman slipping in a pool of Shane’s sweat when he goes for the Superman punch.   I can see Roman hitting a spear on Shane when he goes for the Coast to Coast to get the win.

Braun Strowman vs. Bobby Lashley

Dave: I expect Braun goes over here.  It’s a shame that these two are this far down the card.

Mike: How is it that Braun can flip a car but can’t win an arm-wrestling match in 3 seconds?  I’d like to see Lashley get the win, but the reality is this is a sold, feel good show, so Braun wiped Lashley out and gets the pin with the powerslam.

Richard:  Braun should win this match, but creative has done so much to turn Braun from the guy who people wanted to see become the Universal Champion to someone who you don’t care if he is even on Raw each week.  But that is still better than what they have done with Lashley.  At least he is no longer in Baron or Shane’s shadow.

Lars Sullivan vs. The Lucha House Party

Dave: I can’t even get invested here.  This who thing is just goofy.  Lars probably wins.

Mike: Unless WWE has lost their minds, Sullivan destroys them after a few hope spots.

Richard:  The Lucha House Party will be too distracted by their feud with the Singhs on 205 Live and that will be the factor that gives Lars the victory.
