THE 24-7 TITLE, THE BOOKING, WHEN GUYS DON’T LIKE EACH OTHER AND MORE

Happy Memorial Day!  Thanks to all who have served and sacrificed.

The 24/7 Title.  I already hate it.  It feels like another silly Vince idea to get ratings up.  They have several titles that aren't treated as important already.  You onboard with the new addition?

It’s clearly a secondary, humorous Title (and also a throwback to a gimmick from the glory days of ratings).  I am not on or off board but I am not a big fan of it.  It’s not like my disdain for the lazy booking crutch known as The Briefcase, but instead it’s because they have told us that everyone that wants the Title is not a serious competitor.  Robert Roode had the belt and both Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin couldn’t have cared less about it.  If wrestlers don’t care about it, it tells the audience that it doesn’t matter.

I sincerely want to commend your amazing work with this site. Dave and Mike's reporting and writing acumen have made PWInsider my go-to for wrestling news for a long time. My question is, in all your years working on this site, has PWInsider ever won any industry awards for sports or entertainment journalism?

Thanks!  We have not but that’s OK.  People like you, who appreciate what we do, are all of the awards that I need.

Is it wise to inject WWE programming with a pointless, one-dimensional 24/7 Championship that'll just amount to Keystone Kops-style nonsense when WWE should focus on lifting, say, the United States and Tag Team Championships out of the toilet and giving them the prestige overhaul they so desperately need? The 24/7 title just feels like more empty calories on an already nutritionally-challenged meal. Hopefully that analogy makes the same amount of sense to you as it did in my head.

Yes, it does.  And yes, they should focus on making talents and Titles matter again.  Will they?  Well….

My favorite feud of all-time is Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels and those two hated each other. Would you agree with the notion that if two guys have legit animosity, it would make for a great feud and match?

It’s a case by case thing.  In their feud, it worked.  In other cases, it could be a disaster.

So we had the powers that be stand in the ring and promise change. That change never came. Then we get this ridiculous wild card rule to try and help the ratings dive. The next answer to fans tuning out is to ruin the ending to a great ladder match and hand it to Brock Lesnar? As if he didn't kill the ratings when he had the title at home with him every Monday night. I mean, is Vince punking us all? To me it feels like a slap in the face. At this point I can only assume they just no longer care, so why should we?

Here’s the thing, Vince does care.  He thinks he is giving us a good product.  That actually makes it all so much worse.  Let me be clear, it’s all on the writing.  The talent can’t do much with the stuff they are given to work with.
