Have you ever wondered why we’re so attracted to WWE title holders? What’s special about punching, screaming, and bragging? Is it those sparkling smiles, stylish hairdos, and mega-attractive sweaty bulging muscles that keep us glued to the screens and cheer up our favorites? According to SamplesEdusson, an online writing company that provides students with high-quality essays and sample papers, professional wrestling has long become an integral part of popular culture, a symbol of self-expression, and democracy.
By the way, on SamplesEdusson, you can find lots of papers exploring the phenomenon of wrestling’s immense popularity and it contribution to American democracy.
No wonder, students often emulate wrestlers, their manner of speech, the way they look and express their views. Still, not all wrestlers become legends. Only the best of the best survive the measure of time, enter the history of professional wrestling, and become role models.
How It All Started...
The WWE is a unique company that has been entertaining us for so many years, and it still gets lots of surprises in store for us. Still, the WWE would be what it is now without its outstanding wrestlers, real superheroes (and antiheroes), who fascinated wrestling connoisseurs with their power and charisma.
We suggest that you take a look at the most celebrated WWE champions that once rocked the world and etched their names deeply in the history of professional wrestling.
Steve Austin, better known under his ring name ‘Stone Cold’, opens our list of the best WWE champions.
At the dawn of his career, Austin was known as ‘Stunning’ Steve. He made a splash in the early 90s when he signed with the WWE. Rebranded as ‘Stone Cold’ in 1995, the wrestler amassed extreme popularity and success during the following years. The audience fell in love with a brutal, swearing, and beer-drinking rebel who was constantly defying the WWE and its chairman, Vince McMahon during his performances. Throughout his wrestling career, Austin participated in lots of tournaments where his exhibited his exceptional endurance and fortitude, and defended his title of a super-wrestler. A Triple Crown Champion, Austin was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009. Presently, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin is rightly considered the biggest and brightest star in the WWE history.
It would be criminal not to mention A.J. Styles on our list of the most famous WWE champions.
Allen Neal Jones is a world-renowned professional wrestler who debuted in WCW in 1998. He is widely known for his performances in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) from 2002 to 2013. Back then, A.J. won all the men’s titles, became the five-time TNA Triple Crown champion and the two-time TNA Grand Slam champion. From 2002-2006, Styles occasionally appeared in the Ring of Honor. In 2014, he made his debut in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he won the IWGP heavyweight champion title and was the leader of the Bullet Club group.
John Cena is arguably the greatest and most charismatic WWE superstar who won 25 championships. He is the 13-time WWE champion and 3-time World Heavyweight Champion. Unlike Steve Austin, Cena didn’t exploit the image of an antihero. Cena was exceptionally good at defeating his rivals and coming to terms with his own fall from grace. Cena managed to fascinate the audience not only with his mic skills and machismo inherent in every WWE wrestler, but also his philanthropic and creative activities.
Our list would be incomplete if we fail to mention Hulk Hogan on it.
Terry Gene Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan, is an American retired professional wrestler, actor, showman, and a musician. He rode the crest of the wave of popularity between 1985 and 1993 as the WWE’s franchise player.
Hogan is a thirteen-time world champion: a one-time, a six-time WWF World Heavyweight Champion, and a six-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion. It’s also a noteworthy fact that Hogan’s first WCW World Heavyweight Championship reign is considered the longest in wrestling history, while his first WWE Championship reign is the third-longest.
Hulk Hogan is considered “the most recognized wrestling star worldwide.” In 2005, the legendary wrestler was inducted to the WWE Hall of Fame by Sylvester Stallone, which was quite symbolic, since Hogan played Stallone’s rival in Rocky 3.
