THE SHIELD VS. LASHLEY & BARON & MCINTYRE, AMBROSE SAYS FAREWELL: COMPLETE WWE 'LAST CHAPTER OF THE SHIELD' COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2019-04-21 20:29:00

Welcome to PWInsider.com's live, ongoing coverage of WWE's Last Chapter of The Shield from Moline, IL at the Tax Slayer Center!

If you are looking for results from before WWE went on the air, click here.

The announcing team is Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Renee Young.  The broadcast opened up with the announcers, standing at ringside, breaking down tonight's card.

They went to a video feature on the creation of The Shield.

After the video, they went to Elias in the ring, strumming his guitar.  He said tonight is the last night of The Shield and he’s happy about that.  He said he’s glad Dean Ambrose had the good sense to know there was no future with The Shield.  He said he wishes Seth Rollins had the same good sense and said Roman Reigns would pay for what he did to Vince McMahon and Elias on Smackdown.

Elias began singing about how it was the final night for the Shield and how it’s unfortunate it’s taking place in front of the dumpiest crowd he’s ever seen.  He began knocking Moline in song until Finn Balor’s music prevented him from continuing.

There were additional travel issues to last night’s St. Louis live event.  Mike Rome, who was to be the ring announcer, arrived late and didn’t even land until well after the show began.  Chad Patton ended up being the sole referee as the other referee didn’t make the show due to travel issues as well.

Elias told Finn he was going to sing with Elias tonight.  Balor said he’d be happy to do so.  Elias said the song was so easy, even the people in Moline could follow along.  He asked them to sing “Yes, I do” when he sang “I Love Elias.”

Finn instead sang, “When I say Elias sucks, you sing Yes he does.”  The crowd did so, leading to Elias attacking Balor and putting the boots to Balor.  The referee called for the bell.  Elias worked him over but Balor rebounded with a dropkick.

Elias quickly regained control and beat Balor in the corner.  He brought Balor to the outside of the apron and slammed his arm against the corner of the apron.  Elias continued to control the match, scoring a one count.  Elias kept giving grief to Corey Graves, who was at ringside doing commentary.   Balor began fighting from underneath and even kicked Elias in the face but had his arm grabbed and snapped.  Elias kept control and asked the crowd who wanted to "Walk with Elias."  Elias teased sending Balor into the corner and slammed him shoulder-first into the buckles.  He followed up and did it a second time.

Elias went for the trifecta but Balor reversed and sent him into the buckles.  Balor ducked a clothesline and nailed a kick to the mid-section.  He kicked Elias in the face rebounding off the ropes and began working over Elias' arm.  Balor rolled him up for a two count but Elias snatched his arm into a Fujiwara armbar, trying to force a submission.     Balor escape and nailed a double leg takedown, squashing him with a double stomp to the chest.  Balor followed up with a Slingblade but was caught with a hard lariat and covered for a two count.  Good back and forth energy thus far.

Balor caught Elias with an enziguri and ascended to the top but was knocked off onto the apron.  They battled right above the announcers' table with all three backing off.  Balor came back with a sunset flip into the ring and scored a two count.  It appeared that was supposed to be the finish but instead they went right into a La Magistral cradle with Balor scoring the clean pin.

Your winner and still WWE Intercontinental Champion, Finn Balor!

A solid back and forth match with a nice story told and each playing their roles well.  The pre-match singing with the two was hokey but not out of place with what WWE does on their house shows.

After the match. Elias had his stool and guitar brought back to center ring.  He said that Balor got lucky and now everyone else will get lucky, because he's going to finish the sing he started right now.

Before he could begin, out came The Riott Squad.  Ruby Riott said they were sorry to come out but they are really big fans.  They wanted to sing along because they love his music.  They asked to be the Elias Squad tonight.  Elias welcomed them to sing along and they did harmony but changed the song to "We love The Riott Squad" as Elias became increasingly flummoxed.  That was pretty funny.

Out came Bayley and Ember Moon, who had separate entrances.

Bayley & Ember Moon vs. The Riott Squad's Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan (with Liv Morgan)

The ring announcer erroneously said it was a six-woman tag team match.    Michael Cole covered for him saying he was obviously referring to Sasha Banks.  That led to Renee saying Bayley was in a bit of a rebuilding phase.

The announcers noted the Squad was in tears on Monday when they learned they were breaking up.

Logan and Bayley began the match.  Bayley had control early but was overpowered and taken to the mat.  Logan howled before locking on an armbar.  Bayley quickly rebounded but was distracted by Liv and drilled into the buckles by Logan.  Bayley made the tag out to Moon.  Moon and Riott went back and forth with some nice action.  Riott drilled her in the face and the Squad began tagging in and out, controlling Moon.  Moon nailed an armdrag takedown and drilled Logan to the mat.

Bayley tagged in and nailed a sliding kick to the outside.  The announcers pushed that Bayley wants to prove herself to all the critics.  Bayley was cut off by Logan and covered for a two count with a sideslam.  Riott tagged in and used a cravate on Bayley, wearing her down.  The crowd tried to rally Bayley.  Riott nailed an elbow to her jaw for another two count.  Riott choked her against the ropes.  The Riott Squad continued to work over Bayley.  Logan used a variation of a Texas Cloverleaf, trying to force a submission.  Bayley was able to fight her way out, sending Logan into the corner.

Bayley fought to the corner and was about to make the hot tag but Ruby had just been tagged in and knocked Moon off the apron, preventing the tag.  Moon finally scored the hot tag a few minutes later, nailing a big dropkick and a step-up enziguri on Riott.  He followed up with another kick and a high cross bodyblock for a two count.  Ruby drilled her with a stiff kick to the head.  Moon went down,  Ruby used the ropes during a pinfall attempt with Liv Morgan trying to hold her legs for additional momentum.  The referee caught it and threw Morgan out.  As Riott protected, Moon ascended to the top and nailed her with the Eclipse, scoring the pin.

Your winners, Ember Moon and Bayley!

Another good, solid back and forth match.  I liked that they let the Riott Squad have an "official" final bout as well.

The Shield did an old school 'holding the camera" promo backstage.  They walked into WWE seven years ago with one goal in mind, creating a legacy while serving their own code of justice.  Instead, they created a new legacy for this place.  Tonight, come hell or high water, they are doing it their way.  Believe in The Shield.

The announcers, at ringside, discussed the Shield's opponents.  They showed footage of Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin attacking The Lucha House Party and The Singh Brothers earlier in the evening.

The Shield - WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose vs. Bobby Lashley & Drew McIntyre & Baron Corbin.

Corbin cut a promo saying it was the final chapter for the Shield and asked the audience if they thought it was going to be some happy fairy tale ending.  He reminded them that they thought the same thing about Kurt Angle's last match but that was Angle losing to him.  Lashley said The Shield will be lucky if they let them crawl out with an ounce of dignity after the beating they are about to give them.  Drew told everyone to get their cameras ready because they are going to be part of history.  He said that history is written by the victors and you are only as good as your last match.  He said that after they mar and destroy and brutalize the Shield, they will be the new dominant force in WWE.  He demanded The Shield come out.

The Shield did their old entrance, coming out through the crowd.

Corbin and Rollins started out.  Corbin rolled through the Universal Champion with a shoulderblock.   Rollins rebounded off the ropes with a great looking dropkick.  He used an armwringer to control him and tagged in Dean Ambrose.  Ambrose splashed his arm and unloaded with a series of rapid-fire punches in the corner.

Corbin stunned him and tagged out to Lashley.  Lashley leapfrogged Ambrose but was nailed with a strike.  The Shield triple-teamed Lashley, who was able to tag out to McIntyre.   Roman and Drew faced off and battled back and forth.  Roman nailed him with a Samoan Drop.  Ambrose tossed Drew over the top to the floor and nailed a tope through the ropes.

Corbin tried to interfere.  Ambrose nailed him but that allowed Drew to nail him and return to the ring.  Corbin and Lashley put the boots to Ambrose.  McIntyre tossed him back into the ring and controlled him as he and his partners tagged in and out.  Lashley stomped away at Dean and beat him in a corner.  Lashley antagonized the other members of The Shield while Baron and Drew trashed Ambrose on the floor outside.  Lashley went to the floor and brought Dean back into the ring.  Dean crawled towards his corner to tag out but was prevented by Corbin.

Dean was able to fight back and locked on a figure four leglock, but Lashley distracted the referee, allowing Drew to rake Ambrose's face.  Drew worked over Ambrose but a suplex attempt was reversed.  Dean wanted to go for the tag but Lashley catches him with a belly to belly suplex for another two count.    The crowd chanted for Ambrose, who was tossed again to the floor and beaten.  Roman Reigns had enough and grabbed a steel chair.  He backed off their opponents as the referee tried to prevent Reigns from advancing any further.

McIntyre tagged in and tossed Dean back into the ring but was caught out of nowhere with a neckbreaker.  Dean finally made the hot tag to Rollins, who cleaned house with all sorts of hot offense including a Slingblade on Baron and a pescado to the floor on Drew.  Corbin tried to grab him with a chokeslam but Rollins rolled him up for a two count.  Rollins tried to go for the stomp but McIntyre ran interference, allowing Corbin to drill him from behind.  Lashley tagged in and set up for a double-team superplex.  Rollins fought them off and nailed a flying bodypress on Baron, rolled through and tagged out to Roman.

Roman used his power to ward off all of their opposition and set up for the Superman punch.  Lashley went for a Flatliner but was thwarted.  Corbin was nailed off the apron with a Superman punch.  Lashley then ate a Superman Punch of his own.  Ambrose, now on the apron, tagged in and came off the top with a big flying clothesline but Drew broke it up at the last second.  Drew began beating the hell out of Ambrose.  He tagged out to Corbin and they went for a double suplex.  Dean and Seth hit stereo moves on Drew and Baron.  Lashley went to attack but ate a Roman spear.  Rollins nailed the stomp on Drew.  Dean nailed Dirty Deeds on Corbin.

Roman tagged in and they hit the triple powerbomb, "for the final time" on Corbin, scoring the three count.

Your winners, The Shield!

Another solid main event that told a nice back and forth story and gave everyone a chance to be spotlighted before going into the Shield's greatest hits sizzle reel.  It was exactly it needed to be.

The Shield celebrated together in the ring and played to the crowd.    Seth took the ring mic.  The crowd chanted, "Thank you Ambrose."  That led to a "Please don't go" chant.  Roman had a big smile on his face about that.  Seth asked the crowd, "Don't you think we didn't try that one already?"  The crowd laughed.  Seth said that a few weeks back, he won the Universal title at Wrestlemania, beating Brock Lesnar.  He said that there's a lot of people in the Quad-Cities that know him and know his story and that was the culmination of the last 15 years of his life that he put into this business.  He has family here tonight and he couldn't have done it without their support and the support of his friends but the title win would not have been possible without "this brotherhood."

While this was a culmination for him personally, it was also the culmination of their last seven years together.  He will always love The Shield and he could not have done it without them.  The crowd chanted "Thank you Shield."

Dean took the mic.  He said that it's no secret Seth grew up here and he wanted it to look at them as an example.  He said that they are no different than anyone else.  He said if you bust your ass and don't take no and keep going, Seth as Universal Champion is proof you can overcome any obstacle.  He said Roman is proof that you can overcome anything that's worse than you can imagine.  The Shield is about kicking down doors and not taking no for an answer.  He said that if someone tells you you can't do something, you stick your middle finger in the air at them and tell them "The Shield said so."   The crowd popped and chanted, "Thank you Ambrose."

The Shield put their fists together for The Shield salute and posed for the fans as the broadcast went off the air.
