MLW BATTLE RIOT SPECIAL
Middleweight Championship: Teddy Hart (C) vs. Ace Austin
I remember seeing Ace Austin a year ago in Asbury Park for CZW and thinking he'd be big in the future -- who knew the future would be now? The Dynasty (MJF, Richard Holliday, Alexander Hammerstone) were at ringside as they're in a feud with The Hart Foundation. They start off with Austin disrespecting Teddy which causes him to end up on the wrong end of a Teddy Bomb. The two brawl on the outside where Teddy dominated. Hart incites The Dynasty by grabbing their champagne and drinking it then throwing it in the face of The Dynasty's security.
This allows Austin to get some kicks (including a cartwheel kick) and rapid fire clotheslines. Austin attempts a moonsault, but Hart stops him and tries for a Destroyer. Hart gets crotched and Austin does a springing headscisssors off the top. Austin hits a leg drop off the top for a 2. Teddy gets control and hits a standing side suplex on the top. Hart remains on top and hits a flying destroyer followed by a running destroyer.
Winner: Teddy Hart - retaining the title
Post-Match: Teddy is interviewed and run downs The Dynasty and says the only person he respects is Holliday. He offers his hand but a scuffle ensues.MJF cracks Teddy with a champagne bottle. Smith and Pillman run out to neutralize the threat.
Thoughts: A fun match as Teddy Hart is always a blast to watch. Ace Austin keeps getting better and better.
Myron Reed w/Rich Swann vs. Minoru Tanaka
Reed & Swann come in with their mouths taped with the word "justice" written on it. Backstory here is both Swann and Reed have assaulted MLW personnel and were fined and suspended. So this is their protest against injustice. Tanaka and Reed started off slow but after a missile dropkick got the crowd into. Suzuki hit a knee drop then followed it up with a cross-arm breaker. Tanaka went for a suplex but Reed blocked and turned it into a stunner. Reed, after some chasing around the ring, hit a springboard cutter. Reed springboarded in but ate a kick then did an arm bar and rolled into a pinning combination.
Winner: Minoru Tanaka
Thoughts: An okay match that never got out of first gear.
MLW World Championship NYC Street Fight: Tom Lawlor (C) vs. Jimmy Havoc
This was a lot in-ring brawling until Havoc tried to rana Lawlor off the top through a door and multiple chairs. But only for two. Lawlor did an overheard suplex onto open chair but only for two again. Lawlor charged Havoc but gets dumped to the outisde. Havoc grabbed a staple gun but Lawlor slapped on a figure four to counter...but took MULTIPLE staples to the forehead. Havoc sipped a beer, and when we go back to Lawlor he is bloody as hell. Havoc puts Lawlor on a chair, then licks Lawlor's head. He staples Lawlor again. He gives the referee an Acid Rainmaker. Lawlor with a drop toe hold into a chair then a running DVD into a board. Havoc goes for another Acid Rainmaker but it gets reversed with a pendulum slam on the chairs. A new ref comes out and counts to 2. Lawlor hits a V-Trigger through a chair multiple times for the win.
Winner: "Filthy" Tom Lawlor
Thoughts: A very fun brawl, and I liked the story that Lawlor needed to be Havoc since Jimmy is one of the few people to have beaten Lawlor in MLW.

Winner: LA PARK.
Post-Match: He is the new #1 contender and gets a title shot whenever, wherever.
Thoughts: I'm a sucker for a match like this. They did a great job of establishing and showcasing a lot of their new talent especially MJF, Pillman, Hijo de LA Park Hammerstone, Romero, and Ollllllll Mancer. MLW has been hit with roster losses, but they have this knack of developing new talent.
LAX was a BIG surprise, but they were out as fast as they showed up. Interesting to see if they'll be back in MLW.
Speaking of "new" talent -- the push of CONTRA as been terrific. They're really building them as a legitimate dangerously, old school heel stable. It's exciting to see where they go.
At the same time -- they re-establish Promociones Dorado as a top group.
And now Tom Lawlor (who was attacked at a press conference by Contra) now has Contra and Salina de la Renta's crew coming after him.
