3/23 NORTHEAST WRESTLING 'MARCH MAYHEM' IN BETHANY, CT LIVE REPORT

By Paul Crockett on 2019-03-23 23:11:00

Northeast Wrestling “March Mayhem”

Bethany, CT

March 23, 2019

MATCH ONE: Private Party (Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy) v. The Amazing Graysons (Tommy & JP)

Fast paced opener that saw both teams show off some decent athleticism.  It got a good reaction from the typically hot Bethany crowd.  Private Party got the win with a 450/Unprettier combo.  The issue will be to see how much burnout factor is involved with this opener as sans a brief heat in the middle to build to a hot tag, this was all action and high flying.  It’s been a staple every time I see Private Party that while they have fun with the crowd, they also have a tendency to burn them out.

WINNERS: Private Party

MATCH TWO: JT Dunn v. “Red Lion” Chris Battle

Given the short amount of time the match had, I really enjoyed it.  It told an easily digestible story that had a beginning, middle and conclusive end.  Dunn spent the majority of the match selling and attempting to comeback but kept coming up short.  He had a brief opening in the end, hit the Death by Elbow and got the win.  Well done by both guys.

WINNER: JT Dunn

MATCH THREE: The Trust Fund (“Thrillride” Jimmy Preston & Ron Zombie) (with Jared Silberkleit) v. The Perfect Gamble (“American Sumo” Mike Gamble & “Degenerate” Dexter Loux)

Silberkliet plays a sleezy, creepy version of Jim Cornette and he has his “assets” that he has paid for do his bidding.  They’ve been feuding with The Perfect Gamble for a while.

I thought this was a good, simple tag team match.  Zombie and Thrillride got the heat on Loux until he got a hot tag to Gamble and he cleaned house.  Sumo had a good spot where Silberkliet was being obnoxious on the apron, and Sumo jumped up and the effect caused the ring of shake and Jared fell to the floor.

The finish came when Sumo looked to finish Zombie, but Thrillride speared Loux and Zombie hit the leaping DDT for the win.  After the match, the Trust Fund was going to put Sumo through a table but Buddy Costa came in for the save.  But he got cut off and put through the table himself.

WINNERS: The Trust Fund

MATCH FOUR: The Crown on the Line – “King” Brian Anthony v. “Rare Breed” Keith Youngblood

This one has been part of a long stemming feud between the two, as Youngblood’s former partner turned on him to join King Anthony’s Court.

This one went a little long, but overall, I thought it was a good match.  They went back and forth for a bit and traded nearfalls before a quick, believable distraction on the floor by Anthony’s manager The Baron helped Anthony hit his finish for the win.

WINNER: “King” Brian Anthony

MATCH FIVE: “Cold Steel” Chuck O’Neil v. Wrecking Ball Legursky

This was a big match for both guys in the sense that they’re at a point development wise where they need to show growth.  In the case of both men, I thought they passed.  In the case of O’Neil, it was with flying colors.

The story of the match is that Wrecking Ball is a babyface monster and that O’Neil is a heel legit tough guy.  Both played their parts really well, and in the case of O’Neil, he showed great poise in leading the match and showing control and improvement in selling.  Both still have some growing to do, but this was a great step.

The finish saw O’Neil batter away at Wrecking Ball and having him in an armbar.  Wrecking Ball got out with a powerbomb, but O’Neil sold then put the armbar on again.  Wrecking Ball went for another powerbomb, but O’Neil pushed off, went for a high kick, missed and ran into a Boss Man Slam for the Wrecking Ball win.  Good match.

After the bell, the Trust Fund came out and put Wrecking Ball through a table.

WINNER: Wrecking Ball Legursky

MATCH SIX: AR Fox v. Austin Theory

This match was very good.  It went too long and had too many nearfalls toward the end, but overall, it was very good and both guys are definitely solid pros.  Theory got the win with the Unproven Cutter.

WINNER: Austin Theory

MATCH SEVEN: Non-Title Match – The King’s Court (“Duke of Danger” Dan Evans & “Lord” Anthony Battle) v. Inzanely Rude (RJ Rude & Zane Bernardo)

This match was pretty solid.  They bookended the Anthony match with this one as far as the finish.  The Court got the heat on the babyfaces until the hot tag and nearfalls.  The Baron again got involved and tripped up Bernardo.  But before Evans could finish, Keith Youngblood came out and chased The Baron off.  This allowed Bernardo to roll Evans up for the win.

After the match, Youngblood said at WrestleFest next month in Danbury, it would be him and Jerry “The King” Lawler challenging for the tag titles with Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat in their corner.

WINNERS: Inzanely Rude

MAIN EVENT: NEW Heavyweight Title – “Big Bacon” Brad Hollister (c) v. Christian Casanova v. “Man Scout” Jake Manning

The big build was Manning finally getting a title shot after having never won a match before winning a Battle Royal last month.

This was a very good main event.  I thought Casanova and Hollister continued to show why they are standouts in New England, and Manning played his part well as the sympathetic babyface.  The finish saw Manning hit his piledriver on Casanova, but Hollister pulled him out of the ring and took the fall.

WINNER: “Big Bacon” Brad Hollister

Overall, this was an enjoyable show in a really fun atmosphere. This is one of my favorite places to watch a show.  If you get a chance to see a show from NEW whether it is here or elsewhere, it’s definitely a fun night out, especially if you have kids that love wrestling.
