SCRIPTING RONDA-BECKY, GALLOWS & ANDERSON, VENTURA & PIPER'S ABC PILOT, LIGER AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2019-03-15 10:00:00

If you had to guess where Gallows and Anderson go if they indeed leave WWE, where would it be?

The smart money would be on New Japan Pro Wrestling, which needs to shore up the American side of their roster.  Again, and I don't want to be a broken record here, there's a lot of time between now and September.   We have to see where the story takes us.

A few years ago, Paul Heyman mentioned in an interview that he'd like to see all of ECW put into the WWE Hall of Fame.  What do you think?

I don't think that's a great idea.  I'd love to see ECW honored and remembered, obviously, but to me, there are a plethora of great talents who had amazing careers there and then went on to have great careers in WCW and WWE as well.  I'd prefer to see the talents individually honored for their careers.  I wouldn't have an issue with certain matches being honored down the line as "HOF worthy" but to me, putting all of ECW in isn't fair to those talents who deserve their own moment in the sun.

The Ronda-Becky stuff seems like it's Paul Heyman-esque bombastic in the promos, the delivery, the violence, even the Tweets.   Am I right?

You are 100% right.  As we have mentioned on PWInsider Elite audio over the last several weeks, Heyman has been working in concert with Ronda Rousey to script everything surrounding the build to her Wrestlemania main event.  So, if you are enjoying all the twists and turns, it's absolutely Paul Heyman's work in the middle of all this.

I seem to remember a TV show where Jesse Ventura played a cop who was a wrestler, but I can't find anything on it. Any ideas where I can find it on DVD?

You are remembering the ABC pilot "Tag Team" which starred Ventura and Roddy Piper as blackballed wrestlers who become police officers. The pilot was actually pretty good for its time.  Unfortunately, there was an issue between the network and the production company and the entire thing was dropped.    The in-ring footage that was shot would actually be the last time Ventura wrestled, although he would later appear as a referee.  The show is not available on DVD, officially.

What should Jushin Liger's retirement match be?

I liked the idea of Liger fighting for the IWGP Junior title, but they just did that at the Anniversary show.  I'd like to see Liger face Will Ospreay and give him the rub on the way out.
