During a segment on the Christmas Eve edition of Monday Night Raw, WWE played a vignette where Vince McMahon, dressed as Santa Claus, made several announcements, including an announcement officially confirming that WWE Women's Tag Team Championships will be instituted in the future.
There were no further details given, but a number of stars, including Bayley and Sasha Banks have spoken of wanting to be the first champions in recent weeks. Several months back, there was artwork from the then-potential championships making the rounds.
The new belts, when launched, would be the first Women's Tag Team Championships seen in the promotion since the late 1980s when they were the centerpiece of a feud between The Jumping Bomb Angels, Noriyo Tateno and Itsuki Yamazaki and The Glamous Girls, Judy Martin and Lelani Kai, who battled over the belts in 1987 and 1988.
