BACKSTAGE NOTES FROM SMACKDOWN 1000

By Mike Johnson on 2018-10-17 17:30:00

We noted last night that Dave Bautista arrived late at Smackdown 1000.  One source noted that he actually arrived around 6:00 PM Eastern for a show that went on the air at 8 PM.  6:43 PM Update: Our original report listed 7:40 PM but two additional sources have since reached out to state it was actually earlier than that and that Bautista arrived around 6 PM.

The original plan was for the show to open with Rey Mysterio vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, but there was a lot of shuffling of segments in the last few hours prior to the show.

The Undertaker promo was always set in stone to close the broadcast, although it was planned to be much longer, but time was cut as the show ran long.

WWE also cut time for the Mysterio vs. Nakamura match, as well as Mysterio's entrance.

The Miz match was always scheduled to go three seconds.

Several backstage segments were cut from the show, including one with James Ellsworth, who instead shot a segment for WWE's YouTube segment.

The R-Truth segment was originally slated for later in the show.

At one point, there was talk of bringing in Christian but we have not heard he was there.

Kane was supposed to be at the taping but was not there.  Obviously, he has lots of duties elsewhere these days.

Zack Ryder was backstage but not used.
