A spokesperson for Knox County Mayor Glenn "Kane" Jacobs stated today that Jacobs is still planning to perform at the 11/2 WWE Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia.
As noted on PWInsider.com, there has been heavy scrutiny of WWE's plans for the show in the wake of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi's disappearance in Turkey after entering the consulate for Saudi Arabia. Turkish officials have stated they have audio and video evidence that Khashoggi was murdered.
"Mayor Jacobs won't speculate on Mr. Khashoggi's disappearance," Jacobs' spokesman Rob Link said to KnoxNews.com. "However, he and his family are in the mayor's thoughts and prayers.
As previously reported, WWE made a donation of $100,000 to the Knoxville Public Safety Foundation, a non-profit organization which assists first responders in Knoxville, TN. "We're happy to support this charity of behalf of Mayor Jacobs," Vince McMahon stated a press release that was issued locally. “Much like his unparalleled contributions to advancing the WWE brand during his stellar career of more than 20 years, Mayor Jacobs has begun work to improve Knox County." The donation was made in consideration to a number of appearances Jacobs is making this fall at Kane, including the Saudi Arabia event.
Jacobs is slated to be at this Tuesday's Smackdown 1000 in Washington, DC.
