I notice MLW has recently used a couple of ex-WCW concepts such as Wargames and Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal.  They are no threat whatsoever to WWE but I’m surprised they’re allowed to use anything that would be trademarked by WWE (okay, STWMTD probably isn’t).  How are they able to do that?

The names are not owned by WWE as they didn’t keep the trademarks active after acquiring WCW in 2001.  In the case of Wargames, that allowed MLW to trademark them and use it.

What did you guys think of WWE’s version of ECW when it first started with One Night Stand in '05 (one of the best wrestling PPVs ever) and '06 along with the follow-up? Was it originally the plan to make an alternative to Raw & Smackdown or did you already realize from the start that it would eventually be just another WWE-formatted show? I consider that one of WWE’s biggest blunders and looking back, what was the purpose of bringing ECW back anyway?

The success of the first ONS led WWE to bring back the brand.  The original plan was to book a show that was similar to the original ECW for the first few months then slowly turn it into a WWE style (Vince McMahon-like) product.  Instead, they went to the WWE style almost immediately and the brand lost its fan base.  ECW fans weren’t interested in a WWE-ized version of the product.

So WWE has the Crown Jewel event. They obviously had to trademark this name to use it. Now Chase Owens calls himself the Crown Jewel, and House of Glory has a Crown Jewel title. One would assume they don’t have trademarks on this since there would be a conflict. Since WWE I assume HAS the trademark on it, wouldn’t Chase and HOG have to discontinue using it or change the spelling possibly?

It would all depend on what the trademark is for.  If it’s just for an event, and not a wrestler, he should be fine.

Who within WWE can actually call Vince by his first name, and not Mr. McMahon?

A lot of people call him Vince, more than you think apparently.  He is Vince to most people.

I saw the question about comparisons between the main rosters and NXT, but couldn’t the real difference between both brands be summed up by the recent main event feuds for both shows. On Raw, Brock Lesnar and Reigns feuded for most of the year and there was little interest in the feud despite how good Paul Heyman is on the mic   Then, on NXT, you have Ciampa vs Gargano feuding for over a year and seemingly having every possible match you can have against each other...even main eventing three shows in a row and still massive fan interest. Their feud always seemed to succeed because they focused on little things, like using the handcuffs and the crutch because they were essential elements in previous battles. The writers paid attention to detail. The wrestlers showed genuine emotion. It just makes the Raw main events feel stale and silly. Thoughts?

As I have said many times, NXT and WWE are two very different products.  They are written and presented in much different ways.  As I tell hardcore fans all the time, WWE hasn’t been “Attitude” for at least 15 years.  They are what they are now.  If fans expect it to be different it’s on them, not WWE.  It’s like you are going to a hamburger chain and expecting them to serve you Chinese food.  In fact, we only got the Attitude Era because Vince was losing the war to WCW and he was open to other ideas.  Once he won the war, he went back to what he likes to present.
