Being a translation student is not simple, and it can be difficult when you think about all the classes, exams and assignments that you have to deal with. It takes a while to become comfortable with the translation course, so we have a couple of tips that might make this easier for you.

Terminology is essential

When you are a translation student, the relevant terminology might seem overwhelming at first. It is best if you learn it as soon as you can. You should find glossaries online or at the library. Once you get accustomed to it, things won’t appear that complicated anymore.

Since you are still a student, you might need some help from time to time. Hiring a professional for a project might seem like cheating for you, but the truth is that you can learn a lot from this experience. Watching a pro work might help you see how you can improve your own translations.

You should know that there are various ways to approach the translation process. There are several techniques that you can use. A simple online search should reveal them all, so you can take a look.

Experience

While this is not necessarily a pleasant topic, you need to make sure that you get some experience as soon as you can. Employers will ask for it, and you don’t want to receive it from doing unpaid work for them. Your university might offer you some help as long as you ask for some work.  There are also several organizations that are looking for volunteers. You might gain the experience that you need and feel like you are part of something bigger as well.

Work on your CV

As a translator, you will need a solid CV as well. You can look up successful project managers online and see what are their tips when it comes to writing a good CV. There are also videos on YouTube that can help you with this.

Practice

In order to improve yourself you need to practice as much as you can. Don’t rely solely on your university. Learn things on your own as well. Look up translation tips online, look at translators’ websites and read books on the topic.

At the same time continue to translate. If you are not ready yet to get hired by someone, you might want to consider becoming a freelancer. You’ll have a lot more freedom and you will get to work on all sorts of projects. There are plenty of articles and books that can help you, and you will find some courses as well.
