MY TAKE ON WHAT THE YOUNG BUCKS, CODY, KENNY OMEGA, MARTY SCURLL AND HANGMAN PAGE’S NEXT MOVE SHOULD BE

We all know that WWE is very interested in Cody, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks. Personally I think they should stay right where they are. Yes WWE can offer a lot of money but with that goes a loss of creative freedom and the possibility of being buried like so many hot Indy acts have been in WWE. Plus an insane road schedule with no time off. Your thoughts?

I have talked about this a LOT on Elite audio over the past month or so.  I am very, very confident in my opinion that those guys should all stay the course that they have created.  I see no reason, other than money, that they should even consider going to WWE. Let’s look at each guy.

Cody: He has been there before.  He was a guy that got over big, organically, as an acolyte of Randy Orton, along with Ted DiBiase Jr.  What did WWE do with that? Nothing.  Zip.  Nada.  Instead of going with the momentum the company squashed it. DiBiase even left the business.  Cody stayed around but never got a decent push.  He left WWE and they wouldn’t even let him keep the Rhodes last name.  Since he has gone out on his own, he has had a great amount of success, and it sure looks like a hell of a lot of fun in the process.  He took Dave Meltzer up on his comment that no one other than WWE could draw 10,000 fans and he joined with the Bucks to do it on Saturday night.

The Young Bucks: These guys are the kings of creating a brand and a following all by yourself.  What they have done in the wrestling business, with the backing of no one, is downright amazing.  They have never needed a machine behind them, and they surely don’t need one now.  They control their lives and their work, and like Cody seem to be loving every minute of it.  Plus, they are smart enough to know that their size will not be an asset for them in WWE, nor will being a tag team.

Kenny Omega: See what I wrote about Cody above.  He knows what it’s like to be there, and what he has done since he left WWE developmental from his days in Deep South.

Hangman Page: He has never been to WWE, but his friends have.  Page is so good and seems to get better by the day.  I am sure, like others before him, he would do amazing work in NXT but he also knows what could be waiting for him if/when he gets called up to the main roster.  And if he doesn’t get that call up, is working for NXT better than working for ROH and New Japan?

Marty Scurll: The same thing I said about Page holds true here.

It would be really hard for me to tell these guys to go to WWE after they just put on the amazing All In show.  What they accomplished on 9/1 is downright amazing.  With just their reputations, they sold out 10,000 tickets in a flash.   That allowed ROH and New Japan to contact Madison Square Garden and book the venue. They are the leaders of what very well could turn into a legitimate revolution in the wrestling business.  It would be hard for me to tell them that they should jump to WWE at this point, unless the amount of money offered was just too ridiculous to turn down.

Where love of craft is concerned, where they are now is the best possible place for them.  When legacy is concerned, they are also in the best possible place for them.  From what I have been told, they all do very well financially.  If it’s me, I would want to be the leaders of the movement, not another cog in the machine.

To me, if I were those guys, I would keep on changing the landscape, as they did on Saturday with All In.  MSG awaits next year, and a lot more.  If I am those guys, I stay the course and continue to blaze the trail.  Speaking personally, I was offered the job of being the Editor of the WWE magazines (and website when it was in its infancy) back in 1999.  I was faced with the choice of taking the paycheck or continuing to try and blaze my own trail.  I chose the latter.  If I were them, I would make that same choice.
