TIERING THE WWE NETWORK, WHAT IF WWE BOUGHT WCW AND ECW TODAY, IMPACT RUNNING PPVS WITH INDYS AND MORE

How far away are we to seeing a tier based WWE Network?  Is it in the planning stage or are they not even thinking about it?

Given the amount of money that they are getting in their new TV deals I think that idea has lost steam.  One reason to potentially do it would be to offer the TV shows if they didn’t like the deals they were offered.  That isn’t the case any more.  I don’t know if it’s still in their thinking but I don’t see a real need for it.  The $9.99 price point is a good one.  I think it makes sense to leave things as is.

Impact is doing a PPV that is hosted by an indy.  Is that the beginning of the end for them?

I wouldn’t say that. I would say it’s more in line with what they have been doing for a while now.  They find ways to cut costs and the One Night Only PPVs aren’t a revenue generator for them.

So is Neville done with WWE? His King of the Cruiserweights run was fantastic and his in ring skills always amazing as well. Why would they not want to keep him around?

He is still listed on their Superstar page and no release has been announced.  So, they are keeping him around.

My question is about Chad Gable, this dude is so talented and athletic; how are they not using him better? He’s a small guy, do you think he’d be successful on 205 Live given that it is more of a wrestling based program and Chad Gable is in fact a wrestler?

It depends on how you definite better off.  There is more money to be made on the main roster, if you get pushed, than on 205 Live.  He is not scorched Earth yet, though they haven’t used him well.  I think for now, if I were him, I would rather be on the main roster and hope for a bigger push than to go down to 205 Live with no guarantees on how I would be used.  But I agree with you, I think they could be doing more with him.  He has a lot of “white meat babyface” in him.

If the internet, and indeed technology was where it is now back in 2001, do you think WCW and ECW would have survived on the Network? I remember they were actually looking at TV deals for WCW at one point, but would a weekly network show been the platform for one of both going forward?

Sure, WWE could have absolutely made them Network shows.  And maybe if they did that instead of putting them on WWE TV (and ECW having its own show was still WWE TV), maybe they would have allowed them to be different and they could have succeeded.  Since they bought the assets, they could have used them differently if they were on the company’s own Network.  On their TV however, they would have never allowed WCW to be their equal.
