5/13 ROH WAR OF THE WORLDS: CHICAGO LIVE REPORT, TV TAPING SPOILERS

By Joseph Chmielewski on 2018-05-14 09:02:00

I just returned home from the ROH War of the Worlds taping in Villa Park, IL. There were lots of stars signing autographs, including all of LIJ.The building wasn’t full, about 85 percent just some of the bleacher seats in the corners were empty. I am taking my best guess as to what will be on what weeks.

Dark match: Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas beat One Mean Team in a squash. Bruiser and Milonas have a team name now, but I didn’t catch it.

Women of Honor dark match: Stacy Shadows beat Stella Grey in a decent match.

Week One:

Tenille Dashwood beat Karen Q, Tenille was super over, the match was decent.

Cheeseburger and Jushin Thunder Liger beat the Dawgs, surprising no interference from Bully Ray (that came later). Very good match, scratched Liger off my bucket list!

WOH champion Sumie Sykai beat Jenny Rose in a very competitive title match.

Week Two:

ROH Tag Team Champions The Briscoes beat Roppongi 3k (without Rocky Romero) after some shenanigans by Jay Briscoe.

ROH TV Champion Silas Young beat Austin Aries by DQ. There was a false finish where Kenny King stopped Beer City Bruiser from interfering, then clocked Silas with the belt and Aries got the pin, but Todd Sinclair reversed it and DQd  Aries instead. Aries low blowed Todd for it, then laid out King afterwards. The crowd booed Todd the rest of the night for it.

Cody came out and cut a promo mentioning his NWA World Title shot and the fact that he was the leader of the Bullet Club, and announcing the Best in the World main event would be a triple threat between himself, Dalton Castle, and Marty Scurll for the ROH World Championship. He ran down Marty as a subordinate, which brought out the Villain and they agreed that they would settle it in the ring even if it meant one of them beating the other. Marty teased a finger break, but let him go.

Week Three:

Flip Gordon beat Jonathan Gresham in a really good match, Bully came out after and told Flip he wanted to apologize because he didn’t realize he was from Montana where his parents wanted to retire and that he served in the Army, so he decided he respected him, but it was a short lived respect as Bully kicked him low and asked if he knew who he was and left.

Kelly Klein beat Deonna Purrazzo by submission in a great brawl. Deonna hit the ring in street clothes, not waiting for the intro. The finish came with a reversal into an arm submission and a very fast tap out, it was hard to see and then it was suddenly over.

So Cal Uncensored beat the ROH 6-man Tag Team Champions The Kingdom in a wild brawl by DQ after a backfired chair spot. Kingdom was mad they lost the match, but they keep their titles.

Week Four:

Kenny King beat Chuckie T in a pretty good match. King was subbing for Jay Lethal who was hurt.

Shane Taylor cut a promo running down Chicago and then running down Josh Woods and King Mo from their Florida encounter, which brought Woods out for a match. Taylor won with the Knockout Punch in a good match

Bullet Club (Cody, Hangman Page, the Young Bucks and Marty Scurll) beat all five members of Los Ingobernables de Japon in an insane crazy 10 man tag that I couldn’t do justice to recapping if I wanted to. Bernard the Business Bear got misted in the face by Bushi. Takahashi laid out everyone with Darryl Jr. Everyone hit their finishers at some point. Hangman Page got lured away by Punishment Martinez as they brawled off stage. The finish came with Bushi eating the Indy Taker, bucks get the pin.

After the taping, went off the air Cody and the Bucks talked about All In, announcing it had sold out in 30 minutes which was way faster than they ever thought it would and that was it.

Great show, never disappointed by Ring of Honor.
