One of the rumors making the rounds over the last 24 hours is that Alberto el Patron got himself fired from Impact Wrestling in order to return to WWE this week. PWInsider.com can confirm that is incorrect. Patron is back home in Texas. WWE sources have indicated that Patron has not had any recent discussions with the company in regard to a return.
Furthermore, Patron's Impact Wrestling contract was slated to expire on 4/21. He had a new one year deal on the table (which included a raise from his current contract), but I cannot confirm whether the two sides ever signed it. Although Impact has announced he has been terminated, whether they can enforce a non-compete is unknown. It may be Patron could not appear on national TV until that deal expires.
The Patron termination followed the former WWE and Impact champion no-showing the Lucha Underground vs. Impact Wrestling event on 4/6 as well as a scheduled signing at Wrestlecon on 4/7. Patron has yet to comment on the matter.
Patron was far and away the highest paid member of the Impact roster, so his termination will free up funds for the company in other ways.
