THURSDAY - APRIL 5th, 2018
BELLTIME: 3:00PM CDT
ALL MATCHES: VICTORY BY KNOCKOUT OR SUBMISSION ONLY
Billed as Wrestlemania Week’s card of “legitimate shoot fights”, this is the first show of WWN’s More Than Mania lineup and the one of two offerings from GameChanger Wrestling. The original main event with Low Ki was scrapped late Wednesday night due to neck injury but Minoru Suzuki has stepped in to face Riddle, setting up an exciting rematch from their meeting last November in the UK. Announcer Larry Legend is treating as a full-on Kumite, announcing each guy’s fighting style.
Dominic Garrini (BJJ) vs. KTB (Mauling)
Garrini with kicks. KTB with a back suplex. Dom goes for a rear-named choke and armbar but KTB powers out. KTB on top with strikes. Dom slips and is throwing knees. KTB locks up the leg, kicking Dom in the head. KTB slips out of an armbar, decks Garrini. Is he out? Dom catches KTB with a deep triangle choke and KTB taps before going out. Decent opener.
Winner by Submission: Dominic Garrini
Tracy Williams (Professional Wrestling) vs. Eddie Kingston (Street Concrete Jungle)
Extended feeling out period while Hot Sauce keeping it standing. Eddie is dragged down and mounted. Williams slaps him in the face and Eddie is pissed. After another slap, he beats the hell out of Sauce. Sauce trying to get at the arm and knee, Eddie striking his way out but is limping. Full Nelson suplex from Kingston. After some struggle, Eddie catches Sauce coming in with a knee, followed by a head kick & backfist to the future. Williams is down and out cold. Ring the bell. This was good.
Winner by KO: Eddie Kingston
MASADA (Hardcore) vs. Martin Stone (Technical Brawling)
Masada spits on Stone during the introductions. Fight immediately goes to the ground. They tumble and grapple for position, Stone gets a kneebar in briefly here and there. Back on the feet, stiff slaps and chops back and forth. Stone with a German. Masada catches Stone coming in to finish him, traps an arm triable and finishes him with head strikes. Crowd was pretty quiet for this one overall, and wasn’t excited at the finish.
Winner by KO: MASADA
WALTER (Professional Wrestling) vs. Filthy Tom Lawlor (MMA)
Lawlor is trying to chop him down. Walter’s too strong and tosses him. Lawlor begs him to come into his guard. Lawlor with a RNC but Walter flips him out. Walter working the on Lawlor’s arm in cast. Tears off the cast for more abuse. Lawlor’s yelling in pain. Loud chops and Lawlor is coming back. Double underhook suplex from Walter. Lawlor with a German, hits a Superman punch to the dismay of the crowd. Lawor goes for another but Walter brutally chops it down. A brief struggle and Walter locks in a RNC for the submission. This was awesome.
Winner by Submission: Walter
We go to intermission.
Dan Severn (American mma) vs. Chris Dickinson (Hard Body Karate)
Dickinson tosses his shirt in Severn’s face. They grapple for a bit, Dickinson winding up on top. They trade positions, Chris traps the head. Severn punches his way out. Severn is outwrestling him. There’s a stand up. Dickinson blasts Severn with a liver kick and he’s down. Dickinson swarms. Severn flips out and they’re up. Pile of kicks from Dickinson. Severn catches one on the head, grabs the leg and drags him down. Dickinson’s pissed. Severn locks another RNC. Dickinson puts a ton of elbows to prone Severn...he looks out. The ref pulls him off. The match isn’t over? Maybe these were to the back of the head. The rules are vague...Severn is up and hits a German and locks a RNC for the tap. This was long and good but I swear Dickinson might have gotten screwed by the ref here.
Winner by Submission: Dan Severn
Dickinson attacks after bell. They rumble at the guardrail until Jaka and Riddle pull them apart.
Nick Gage (Eastern Block MDK All F’n Day) vs. Timothy Thatcher (Catch as Catch Can Wrestling)
Crowd is super hot for Gage. They grapple but Gage gets Thatcher’s back. Thatcher with an arm bar. Gage escapes. Thatcher with a single leg crab into a STF. They fight over armbar, leading to Gage biting Thatcher’s leg to escape. The tide is turned and Gage swarms in Thatcher with a ton of aggression. Almost DDT’s Tim to the outside. Thatcher working a Kimura and Gage is tossed to outside. They fight on outside around the guardrails, Gage getting the better. Thatcher tossed into the timekeeper table and suplexed on the floor. Strike battle back inside ends with a jumping enziguri from Thatcher. Gage is pissed and Lou Thez presses and finishes Thatcher with a ton of strikes. This match seemed weird on paper but definitely worked well in practice.
Winner by KO: Nick Gage
Matt Riddle (Bro Style) vs. Minoru Suzuki (Pancrase)
They start nose to nose. Some stand up sparring to start. Suzuki gets Riddle’s back, who spins it into an armbar. Suzuki reversed into a kneebar. Both are up into a wild strike battle. Riddle dropped with an inside thigh kick. Catches a Kimura as Suzuki comes in. Suzuki working on a RNC. Riddle rolls to the outside and strikes Suzuki on the apron. Suzuki catches Riddle with an armbar from the apron. Down to the outside. Suzuki with floor armbar. Ref tries to break it up. Suzuki chase ref off and tosses a chair after him. Back and forth chops in the ring. A German dumps Suzuki on the back of his head. Riddle with a broton and knees strikes before trying to lock a RNC. Suzuki’s out. Riddle goes for an armbar. Suzuki’s out and pounces on Riddle’s back. He locks in a RNC on Riddle who falls back and eventually passes out after a long struggle. This was just great.
Winner by KO: Minoru Suzuki
Overall, this was a really good show. The actual RULES of the contests were kind of muddy, apart from the KO/Submission finishes, which led to a couple of weird moments live (such as the finish to Dickinson/Severn or why the ref pulled apart Suzuki and Riddle). Apart from that, the contests themselves were pretty good. Walter/Lawlor and Riddle/Suzuki are a must watch.
