THE GREATEST WWE SUPERSTAR ACCORDING TO TRIPLE H AND MCMAHON

By Kendall Jenkins on 2018-04-05 07:02:00

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have revealed who they think the greatest WWE Superstar of all time is. Sort of.

In a First Take interview with ESPN, the pair were promoting WrestleMania 34, and their matches against Kurt Angle, he of the WWE Hall of fame, and Ronda Rousey, respectively.

Stephen A. Smith asked them whom they thought the biggest star in WWE history is, and McMahon named Andre the Giant, another WWE Hall-of-Famer. Triple H picked fighters like Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Steve Austin, and The Rock.

McMahon Says Andre the Giant is a Personal Choice

McMahon said that for her, from her standpoint, it would have to be Andre the Giant. She acknowledged that many people would have said The Rock, and John Cena was also a great candidate, but her pick remained what it was.

She spoke of Andre the Giant being a pop culture icon that transcended media worldwide, and mentioned that there was an HBO special coming in April that would reflect the star’s life. Definitely something that we’ll put away our real online pokies gameplay for!

Triple H Struggled to Name Just One

Triple H responded to the question by taking a rather roundabout way to his eventual answer. He spoke of the reply being a mixed one, because there are a number of aspects that go into being the best.

He mentioned the impact that Hulk Hogan and The Rock had made, with them now being such huge Hollywood stars, but then added Stone Cold Steve Austin also brought something different to the table and brought a new perspective to the ring.

He then said, however, that the one person for him in the industry who stood out above all others was The Undertaker. He said that whether he was in India, the Middle East, South America, Europe, Australia, or Japan, the name that was most frequently on everyone’s lips was that of Mark William Calaway’s character.

He said that, for many, The Undertaker, Calaway’s professional title, was an identity that perfectly expressed what the WWE is.

It’s Difficult to Choose Just One

Max Kellerman, appearing alongside Smith, agreed with the choice of Hogan, but went on to name Paul Orndorff, Randy Savage, Ric Flair, and The Road Warriors.

Triple H responded by saying that this was exactly his point: when you talk about the WWE legends, you can discuss the genius of Vince McMahon, the brilliance of the brand, and a whole lot more, including WrestleMania.

He added that there was not a single entity in all of the entertainment or sports worlds that had created the kind of characters that transcend generations the way WWE has. Even crossover stars like Conor McGregor who went from MMA to boxing and gained massive publicity by taking on Floyd Mayweather cannot compete with WWE wrestler’s fame.

He spoke of storytelling, the kind of character development that kept people coming back for more year after year, that not only touched people’s childhoods, but took them back in time to those moments in their adult lives as well.

He said that there were WWE moments that simply transcend time, connecting with fans on a level that very few other things could, and that this was the true genius of McMahon, this kind of creation.
