WWE champion AJ Styles will be returning to the ring this weekend for the Smackdown brand, working eight man tag team bouts. Styles is slated to team with The New Day against Rusev, Aiden English, Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin at the live events in Trenton, NJ, Fairfax, VA and Indiana, PA.
Triple H commented on Styles' issues during an interview with French outlet Catch News, commenting, "AJ is working diligently on rehabbing his injuries and getting himself in tip-top shape for Wrestlemania. We're hoping for the best. Right now, he says he’s feeling a lot better and we’ll be ready to go. Obviously we’ll get him doctors to make sure that he is ready to go and get him medical clearance if that’s possible."
Styles missed last week's Smackdown Live events, but appeared at the Raw live event at Madison Square Garden on 3/16, being attacked before his scheduled tag team match by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Styles was helped out of MSG but returned to rescue Shinsuke Nakamura after the bout. Styles appeared on Smackdown this past Tuesday but did not take part in any physicality.
The nature of Styles' injury has yet to be disclosed.
Styles vs. Nakamura is slated to be one of the top matches at the 4/8 Wrestlemania event in New Orleans.
