WHAT IS AN ESTA FORM AND WHY DO YOU NEED IT

Visiting the United States is something that everyone should do at least once. However, it is not that easy to get there. There are plenty of regulations and paperwork that needs to be completed, especially after the attacks on September 11 th 2001. Ever since, the security checks have become stricter and it is harder to enter the country.

One of the things required in order to visit the US is the ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) document. ESTA has been around since early 2010, but there are still some visitors who do not know about it and find themselves turned away at the airport.

If you do not want to face any unpleasant surprises when you get there, it is recommended that you do a little research about the ESTA form and find out when you should complete it and how to submit it.

Why do you need the ESTA form?

The Electronic System for Travel Authorization is required for the visitors that are citizens in the member countries of the Visa Waiver Programmed. Basically, anyone who is from one of those countries can visit the United States of America, either as a tourist or on business, for 90 days at most.

ESTA is required even if you are just passing through America and changing flight there. The esta visa application needed even for babies, and the only time you do not need to have the authorization is if you enter the US by land, from either Canada or Mexico.

Applying for the form

Applying for the ESTA form is really easy, and it can be done online. You will need to simply complete it and then submit it. The application has three parts. The first part will ask for some personal information and details related to your passport.

Then, the second part will contain various questions. They will ask you whether you have any health problems or if you know someone connected to the atrocities for Nazi Germany. Finally, the last part is an optional one.

Price

A while ago ESTA used to be free, but now you will need to pay a fee for it. The processing fee will cost you $4 and then you will need to pay an additional $10, which is the authorization fee. The $10 will be refunded if your application is refused.

This means that you will have to pay $14 and you can pay them using your credit card. The form is very easy to fill, but if you think you need some additional help you might get a company to ask you for it.

When will you get the confirmation?

The good thing about ESTA is the fact that the confirmation will show up almost instantly. However, in some cases it might take up to 72 hours. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that you submit the application three days prior to travel so that you won’t face anything
