As the talk intensifies and the back-and-forth between Roman Reigns and John Cena reaches a fever pitch, the constant battle between the two speaks volumes about the WWE's intentions for the Polynesian star.
There could be many possible outcomes, and many ways for the plans to come to fruition, but it seems that Cena's retirement talk has promoted the WWE to move towards creating a new face of the company.
Already, both are pinned down as joint favourites for new year's Royal Rumble, which could be the culmination of the action. The bookmakers will be going hard with incentives and free bets to make the most of the situation, which will be one of the biggest attractions of the current era.
Reigns is trying his hardest to talk his way into the position, although the reaction to it hasn't necessarily been all positive.
However, there is another way that the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion is stepping up to fill Cena's shoes and gain the adulation of the fans, and it's not based in the ring.
The pro wrestling stars are amongst the top request for the Make A Wish foundation, making dreams come true for seriously ill young people. Cena has been generous with his time and persona, becoming the most prolific granter of wishes to his fans, but many others are offering their support to the campaign.
Now Reigns is stepping up to the plate in the same manner and giving back. Following a recent Raw show in San Jose, the Florida native gave us these touching moments with Ryan Kelepi Otutaha which prompted the insiders to see the familarities between the rise to prominence between the rivals.

"We are brothers now," Reigns reportedly told the emotional fan, who got to spend the day with him and share their bond as Americans with Polynesian heritage.
With the recent tour in Australia and New Zealand, he was also able to grant some wishes to the fans Down Under, despite being on a busy show schedule, and he has done the same back home. In connecting in such a manner, it builds an important emotional attachment, which is key moving forward.
The fans respect it, and no matter what their showtime demeanour, they'll always win the hearts of the WWE faithful with their kindness. Reigns' popularity has, at times, been unable to match the airtime the WWE have given him to usher in a new era, but he is winning them over bit by bit.
This isn't to suggest the 2016 'Most Hated Wrestler of the Year' is doing it out of anything other than altruism as he no doubt has a good heart and willingness to give back to the fans that have allowed him his current platform, but it isn't hindering his progress.
Much like Cena, it makes it impossible to not respect the man, and easy to find that soft spot for him.
