LESNAR'S CHALLENGER SET, A FANTASTIC MAIN EVENT, TITLE CHANGES AND MORE: COMPLETE WWE EXTREME RULES COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-06-04 18:55:00

Welcome to PWInsider.com's live, ongoing coverage of WWE Extreme Rules 2017 from Baltimore, Maryland!

KICKOFF SHOW

The panel is Renee Young, Sam Roberts and David Otunga.

They announced the Hardys would be in the social media lounge answering questions.  I am guessing none of those will be about the Broken Hardys!

They aired a video package on The Miz vs. Dean Ambrose and then one on Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss.

Nia Jax joined the panel and said Bayley needed a miracle tonight.  Young noted that Bayley grew up watching all sorts of extreme matches and gave a shoutout to Tommy Dreamer recently.   Jax said that Bayley can't get extreme, especially wearing a side ponytail and a training bra to the ring.  She said Bliss has Bayley beat before they get to the ring.  We know Alexa can handle a kendo stick and Bayley doesn't have the fire to get extreme.   Sam Roberts asked if Bayley needed to worry about Jax in this bout.  She told him he was lucky she was classy and wasn't going to leap over the table and "snatch him bald."

They aired a video feature on Neville vs. Austin Aries.

WWE Raw Tag Team champions The Hardy Boyz joined Charly Caruso in the social media lounge.  Matt Hardy said they were ready and prepared.  A steel cage match was their domain and they are ready.  They were asked what made them come back to WWE.  Matt said they were still active in other places and the timing was right.  They wanted to end their careers where it began.   They picked a cage match tonight because Sheamus and Cesaro aren't going away.  Jeff said it's their last chance and if it didn't happen tonight, it's not going to happen.  Matt Hardy promised they were going to end it tonight and secure their legacy as the best tag team in history, time and space.  No crazy accent from Matt.

Kalisto vs. Apollo Crews with Titus O'Neil

Feeling out process.  Crews caught Kalisto with a dropkick for a two count and rode him to the mat to control him.  Kalisto did a handstand into a rana, which looked cool and sent Crews to the floor.  Kalisto nailed a nice springboard dive to the floor.  He went for another springboard move but was kicked in the gut as he came down.    Crews worked him over.  Kalisto rolled him up for a two count but was nailed with a clothesline.   Crews held him down with a front facelock.   Kalisto was caught with another for a two count.  Titus began complaining about how Crews was handling the situation and they had words.  They allowed Kalisto to nail some kicks and drill him with a corkscrew off the ropes.  Kalisto nailed another big move for a two count.

Kalisto was caught attempting a moonsault but turned it into a small package for a two count.  Kalisto nailed several kicks and turned a tilowhirl into a DDT for a two count.  Some nice moves in this.    Kalisto continued with the big moves until being caught with a Samoan Drop and nailed a big 450 splash but only scored a two count.  Titus and Crews began arguing again but Kalisto nailed the Salina del Sol, pushing off Titus to score the pin on Crews.

Your winner, Kalisto!

A decent back and forth match.

They closed out the Kickoff Show with a look at the five way main event.  Raw GM Kurt Angle joined the panel.  He said the match could change the course of the New Era.  He said that whoever wins this will have taken out four others, so they'll have a good chance against Brock Lesnar.  Renee asked if he was worried about injuries, he said that injuries happen and you can't wrap the stars in cotton.  Angle said that he told everyone when he became GM that they need to prove it in the ring.  Otunga asked for insight as to what it's like being in the ring with Brock Lesnar.  Angle said he was the biggest force of nature and dominant individual he has ever been in the ring with.   He said that it takes a lot to knock Brock down and beat him.  He said he really likes Samoa Joe and he's hungry for the Universal championship.

Extreme Rules 2017

WWE Intercontinental champion Dean Ambrose vs. The Miz with Maryse

If Dean is DQ'd, he loses his championship.  Even though this is a grudge match, they started out doing headlock takeovers.   They sent their well wishes to Harley Race on commentary.  Miz got under Ambrose's skin and he began kicking and punching with the idea that Miz was trying to get Dean DQ'd so he can get the easy win.  Dean nailed a dive to the outside on Miz and tossed him into the barricade.  Dean picked up a chair but thought better of it.  He drilled Miz into the barricade  and grabbed the chair again but had words with the referee.  Miz blasted him,  Maryse distracted the referee and Miz went to use it but Dean kicked him.  Dean grabbed it as the referee turned around and was again prevented from using it.

Dean worked over Miz on the apron but was cut off and nailed with a DDT on the apron for a two count.    Miz worked over Ambrose for a long time.  He nailed Miz with a running dropkick in the corner three times in a row.   He nailed a leaping lariat in the corner.   Ambrose made a comeback with a series of clotheslines and a fisherman's suplex for a two count.

Miz went for a kick but was rolled up for a two count.  Ambrose nailed a neckbreaker for a two count.   Miz came off the top but tweaked his knee.  Miz made the bad knee the focus of his attack and locked on a figure four leglock.    Dean fought to make it to the ropes and finally did, breaking the hold, but the damage has been done.  Dean fought back and went to the top but was crotched by Miz.  The fans were doing dueling chants as Miz went for a superplex.  Ambrose tried to battle him off and slipped underneath and went to powerbomb Miz, who pulled the buckle off while trying to stop Ambrose.

Miz dropped to his feet but Dean kicked him and went to send him into the exposed buckle but stopped himself when he realized what was happening.  Miz drilled Dean and nailed a series of kicks to the chest.  Dean caught him and locked on his on figure four leglock.  Miz was actually tapping his fingers but the referee ignored it as Miz made it to the ropes.   Miz tried to grab him for the skull crushing finale but Dean used a forward roll for a two count then nailed a rebound lariat for a two count.  Maryse got on the apron and was nearly knocked over by Dean and Miz.  Miz told her to slap him.  The referee teased DQ'ing Ambrose but instead threw her out.  Dean rolled up Miz for a two count.

Maryse refused to leave and argued with the referee.  Miz threw Dean into him and the ref argued with Dean, acting like he was going to DQ him.  Mis grabbed him and nailed the Skull Crushing Finale and scored the pin.

Your winner and new WWE Intercontinental champion, The Miz!

It was pretty much everything you would expect from this match.  Very paint by numbers but there were some nice fear falls at the end.

Charly Caruso interviewed Bayley.  The story is that Alexa doesn't think Bayley has it in her to be extreme.  Bayley said she's been watching Sandman, Tommy Dreamer and Steve Blackman matches and after seeing Wonder Woman, she's been inspired.  She's going to get Alexa back for everything she's said about Bayley's family and regain the Raw Women's title.  The verbiage felt a little forced but the promo was good.

Sasha Banks & Rich Swann vs. Alicia Fox & Noam Dar.

Alicia hid from Sasha so the guys started out.  Swann nailed a nice top rope rana that looked nice.  Very cool Swann gets to work in his hometown.  Fox and Sasha brawled (sort of) and Fox was trapped in the Bank Statement.  Dar put her legs in the ropes.  Banks confronted him but was kicked by Fox.  Fox nailed a tilowhirl backbreaker for a two count.  The guys made the hot tag and Swann whipped out some cool, fast offense for a two count.

They battled back and forth with punches and strikes and clotheslines.  Swann went for a backslide but Dar rolled through.   Fox and Banks attacked each other.  They are way off course every time they interact.   They took forever to set up a spot where Banks finally came off the ropes with a double knee strike on Dar.  Swann nailed a Phoenix Splash for the pin.

Your winner, Sasha Banks and Rich Swann!

The Swann-Dar stuff was fine but Fox was way off in a lot.  Banks did what she could.

Elias Samson is in the ring playing his guitar.  Oh boy.  He sang a song knocking Baltimore.   No one came out.  It was just him ripping on Baltimore.
