These Are Just a Few of the Pro Wrestlers Injured in 2016
As in any sport, there are going to be athletes who are injured either in practice or during a live event or scrimmage. When it comes to pro wrestlers, many people believe that what happens in the ring is just one big show and none of it is ‘for real.’ While that may be the case in many instances, it is still a dangerous sport.
It doesn’t take having a nurse practitioner doctorate degree to know that all that rough and tumbling throwing each other around in that ring can result in serious injuries. This year alone, many pro wrestlers suffered injuries, some of which forced the wrestler to retire from the sport. Here is a sampling of the injuries this year, to date, in the world of pro wrestling.
Daniel Bryan Retires Due to Multiple Concussions
The best DNP programs (doctorate of nursing practitioner) prepare nurses for injuries such as those suffered by Daniel Bryan who was literally ‘forced’ to retire due to several concussions he suffered over the course of his career as a pro wrestler. However, in many cases such as Daniel’s, a specialist is required to make a definitive diagnosis and recommend treatment. If injuries are serious enough to force retirement, you know they are severe and potentially life-threatening. Head and neck injuries are among the most common.
Brie Bella Takes Time Off to Be with Husband
Although Brie Bella herself didn’t sustain any serious injuries causing her to take time from the sport, her husband’s injuries and ultimate retirement are such that she wants to spend time with him in the early months away from the sport. Brie Bella is the wife of Daniel Bryan, mentioned above, and at the time of her announcement, it was not known how long she would remain out of the ring.
Neville Suffers a Broken Ankle in March
In March of this year, in a live event that was televised, Neville was reported to have suffered a broken ankle. The event was televised on RAW and it was a match with Chris Jericho. The injury was not severe enough to require surgery so it only kept him away from the sport for a few months. However, there are times when wrestlers suffer breaks bad enough to require surgery and are the ultimate cause of that wrestler retiring from the sport altogether.
Sting Suffers Severe Neck Injury and Retires
Perhaps the best known of all the pro wrestlers with injuries this years, although never a WWE champ, is Sting who suffered a neck injury that was serious enough to cause him to announce his retirement. He didn’t announce his retirement until February of this year but the injury actually took place in September of 2015. In a match against Seth Rollins, World Heavyweight Champion of the WWE, Sting played what would later be revealed to be his final match because the neck injury was so severe doctors advised against going back in the ring.
Online doctoral nursing programs can prepare you for a lot, but not the trauma of being there to treat some of your favorite athletes when their injuries are serious enough to keep them out of the sport forever. That is a level of fortitude that comes from within and if you are a registered nurse who has inner strength and a love of the sport, you just might want to check out doctor of nurse practitioner programs that have a specialization in sports medicine. How exciting would that be? Experience two passions at the very same time – live events watching your favorite wrestlers and practicing as an NP.
