The Nashville Fairgrounds, which has housed professional wrestling events for decades and was the original home (as the Asylum) of TNA when the promotion ran weekly Wednesday night PPVs, will be shut down this June.
Mayor Karl F. Dean made the announcement on Monday via an official statement to the Fairground's Board of Directors, feeling that the current location could not be re-developed and that continuing to run the Fairgrounds as they currently exist would be financially irresponsible. There are currently plans to seek out a new location to build a new Fairgrounds area.
Dean claimed that The Fairgrounds employees will be helped by being placed in new job opportunities and that they will attempt to find new venues for regular events housed on the Fairgrounds.
The Fairgrounds has housed numerous professional wrestling events over the years and is the site of this weekend's Showtime All-Star Wrestling TV Taping on Saturday 10/10, which the promotion has been building to in recent months.
