DEPARTED WWE NXT STAR SAYS SHE IS WORKING OUT 'NEW ARRANGEMENT' WITH COMPANY, WILL BE INVOLVED GOING FORWARD

By Mike Johnson on 2021-06-01 10:41:00

WWE NXT star Kavita Devi told The Hindustan Times that she was not released by WWE and will be working with the company going forward in the future.

On her status with the company, Devi said, "I’ve read some of those reports, and they aren’t accurate. I have been back at home in India since January. My husband contracted Covid earlier this year and I needed to be here with my family, I chose not to go back to America. Everyone at WWE has been incredibly supportive, I am filled with gratitude for everything they have done for me. I have also had an ACL injury for over a year and have been unable to perform in the ring but WWE still supported me through all of that. They understand that India is where I need to be. We are working together on a new arrangement that allows me to be home, but still part of the WWE Universe."

Devi was removed from the company's active roster last month, the same day as a number of other NXT talents were cut from the company.   At the time, PWInsider.com was told she was released by company sources.  It should be noted she remains listed on the WWE Performance Center website as of this writing.

Devi worked the first Mae Young Classic in 2017 before being signed to WWE NXT in October of that year.  She was among the first-ever Indian female talents ever signed by the company.  She last wrestled for the company in July 2019.

"India continues to be a very important market for WWE with some of the most passionate fans in the world," said Devi.  "I will still be involved as an ambassador for WWE in India. In the future that may mean I am involved in scouting new talent or with WWE Live events, anything is possible. There are incredible Indian talent at WWE and I will continue to champion them here at home – including Sanjana George, from Kottayam, who recently signed a developmental contract at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando."

Devi was slated to wrestle earlier this year as the WWE Superstar Spectacle for the Indian market but had returned home to India to deal her husband's illness.  The original plan was for Dev to team with Charlotte Flair on the special. Instead, Sareena Sandhu was placed into a tag match against Bayley and Natalya.
