Over the past week, for whatever reason, there has been a rush of attention to the idea that former WWE World champion Mark Henry is retiring.
That's old news. The reality is that Henry has considered himself retired for months.
Last October in New York City, prior to the NYC premiere of ESPN's 30 for 30 documentary Nature Boy, Henry spoke with PWInsider.com about his status with WWE, commenting, "I'm retired man, I'm an old guy. I want people to remember my best. I don't want them to see my in my old age taking five segment bumps [laughing[...you know, different stuff. We'll enjoy the retirement, fade away gracefully."
Henry also pointed out he was, "...retired until someone runs off at the mouth and I have to come and put them in their place. I'm like Ric [Flair]. I'm going to retire about seven or eight times," leaving the door open for Henry to come back to WWE in a featured way if the company required him to return to the ring.
Henry remains under contract to World Wrestling Entertainment and was in Memphis, TN last week for the company.
