It's time for ODB vs. Maria Kanellis. The Briscoes' stuff always cracks me up. In a lot of ways, they are like The Public Enemy in ECW - silly at times but never seen as a joke. Maria's promo was solid.
Maria came out wearing a long t-shirt. I wonder if she is hiding something under it, a la Bret Hart and Goldberg with the Shield. Maria took the mic and tried to get out of the match, saying the doctor didn't clear her because she was pregnant. Well, thats's a new one. Her promo on the mic was good. Michael Bennett nailed Mark Briscoe from out of nowhere, allowing Maria to nail the distracted ODB with the belt The Kingdom stole from Jay Briscoe that Maria has been carrying around. I thought that was going to a quick, cheap finish but ODB kicked out. They end up going to the floor and Maria takes a pretty sick bump into the barricade. ODB tossing Maria over the top to the floor onto Briscoe and Bennett with a press slam and then hit a dive off the top to the floor on everyone. They are working their asses off and really put together a pretty frenzied, entertaining wreck. Bennett accidentally took out Maria on the apron and was then given a Doomsday Device for his troubles by ODB and Briscoe. ODB wiped out Maria and scored the pin. Far more entertaining then I expect the majority of viewers expected. Good for the ladies.
Time for AJ Styles vs. ACH. This is easily the biggest match of ACH's career. ACH took it to Styles right away to show he wasn't going to be intimidated. ACH teased a big dive but Styles pulled the ropes and wiped him out. The announcers did a good job explaining the differences in the rings in every city. Some really good athletic wrestling and they told a good story in the ring. Styles is warded off when he goes for a big spot and ACH hits a crazy leaping backwards vault, clearing the ropes and wiping out AJ on the floor. Great stuff. ACH worked over Styles for awhile but Styles cut him off and yanked him rudely off the apron to the floor. At that point, it was all Styles signature offense which as always looked great. The last three minutes of this was just awesome with great near falls, counters and finally Styles wiping out ACH with some great offense before pinning him with the Styles Clash. With AJ as the IWGP champion, I don't think the result was ever really in doubt here but the story and work ethic here made it so that the finish was actually secondary. Probably my favorite ACH bout to date.
UFC star Shayna Baszler walked ReDragon to the ring. Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino put her over big-time as she deserved. They noted Phil Baroni was also there.
Time for Young Bucks vs. RedDragon. Rocky Romero was at ringside for commentary. He announced he and Trent Baretta would be debuting as a team in ROH. They went right at it. Lotsof big dives and highspots mixed with kicks and some brawling on the floor. Fun stuff early. Baszler distracted The Bucks to help ReDragon get the advantage. The masked red guys showed up in the crowd. ReDragon took control but The Bucks made a comeback. They went into a sequence of awesome spots and near falls that brought the crowd down. They hit the Meltzer Driver on the floor on Kyle. Corino called it the Indytaker. They nailed ReDragon's finisher on Fish but he kicked out. They nailed More Bang for Your Buck but Baszler pulled Todd Sinclair out of the ring. The Bucks went after her but Kyle attacked them. TheReDragon comeback went down and they nearly scored the pin but this time Matt Jackson pulled the referee out. They went nuts and in the end, it was the champs retaining. One of those bouts where you cant help but look on in awe at what these guys pull out. Great stuff.
I am loving the hell out of this show.
