WWE will present the 2022 Royal Rumble event this Saturday 1/29 from St. Louis, streaming live on Peacock and the WWE Network. Earlier today, WWE 24/7 Champion Dana Brooke sat down with PWInsider.com to talk the Rumble event, returning to the Rumble before a live audience, her 24/7 Championship run and more. Here are Highlights from the conversation. Transcription by Billy Krotchsen:
Competing in the Women's Rumble match again:
"It's truly an honor and I'm blessed to be a part of all of the four Royal Rumbles that the women have taken part in and it is something that you have to prepare, not only mentally, but also physically. So coming into this Royal Rumble match of 2022, is super exciting because last year, being in the Thunderdome era, we didn't have fans, we didn't have an audience in attendance so it was very, very difficult cause I feed off of the energy, I feed off of the fans, I feed off of the crowd, so I'm super psyched fans will be in attendance. Again, I'm not only mentally prepared but I'm physically prepared going in for the Royal Rumble match, but I also am on double duty. Not only do I wanna throw every single woman over that top rope, I have to be prepared to be rolled up and pinned because I don't want to lose my 24/7 Title."
The Importance of the Women's Rumble bout since it was instituted in 2018:
"We're always trying to set the bar, and with women now proving that we can do anything, it's super amazing. Being in the generation of women at this time goes to show that anything is possible and the women that do come back from years and years ago, shows that they can hang with the best too. Having a Royal Rumble match every single year now entering the Wrestlemania season goes to show how strong the women truly are in the division now on Raw and Smackdown. It is an honor because it is not only me, myself and I, but it's all the women involved and we all try to elevate each other, and bring each other to be the best we can be and, I'm speaking for myself, I thrive under pressure, I love that pressure, I love being pushed to the max. Being in a Royal Rumble, you're definitely pushed to the max to show that anything is possible and to get to show your strength. It's also super entertaining. A couple of years ago, Mandy rolled outside the ring and we thought she was done and Otis was standing underneath her and Otis saved her, and then Hornswoggle coming out of the ring and kissing Zelina. You just never know what's gonna happen, and it shows not only athleticism but also an entertainment factor as well. I believe it's setting the bar and we constantly keep outdoing ourselves every single year and you get to see the true talents of every single individual."
Getting To Compete in a Royal Rumble Match Before Live Fans Again:
"It truly is electrifying, like I have goosebumps right now thinking about it because it's just that energy and you feed off of it. It's like a shock of electricity that goes through your body and it feels honestly when you go out there with that roar of the audience, personally it feels like it's my first time, because I'll get them addicted to that energy, I feed off of it and now going and walking out there in 2022 after everything was the last 2 years what we've been dealing with, going out there and seeing that everybody overcame this experience,I am the 24/7 Champion, I'm representing not only for myself but everybody out there in attendance, it's gonna feel electrifying and I'm super, super, super excited to be out there with every single woman out in the company that has stood strong during this time, all the fans, the audience and millions of people watching at home, I cannot thank you enough for supporting me, you know, and I always say that haters are my motivators, so you guys motivate me as well too, so I'm going to go out there and do the best I can personally can be, hopefully walking out there and being the last woman standing and being the 24/7 Champion, so I cannot wait."
Returning competitors this year:
"It is truly amazing seeing all the legends come back. It's different how they did it this year, with releasing all the graphics and also having Lita come back and declare herself in the Royal Rumble match. Seeing Summer Rae come back, that was super exciting because when I first started my career, Summer Rae was up on the main roster, and she was one of my closest and dearest friends, and as I say - life always takes a different path and when she went down that different path, she was figuring it out for herself and we did lose connection and contact for quite some time but we would touch base here and there. So when she was declared in the Royal Rumble, I was super excited. I texted her and said 'Oh my God, Summer, it's summertime again.' Seeing what Micke James has accomplished outside of WWE, coming back into the WWE ring, and entering the Royal Rumble is awesome. The Bella Twins - showing that they can not only be wrestlers but they can be mothers as well is super, super inspiring, showing all the women out there you can do anything you can put your mind to. Being in the ring with Michelle McCool again is an honor to share the ring with her as well."
