WWE Hall of Famer Adam "Edge" Copeland officially returned to the ring as an active professional wrestler during tonight's Royal Rumble.
As PWInsider.com reported several months ago, Copeland traveled to Pittsburgh, leading to him being cleared. Around that time, Copeland signed a new contract with WWE, doing so after some brief talks with All Elite Wrestling. From that point on, as I have written and stated on PWInsider Elite audio, I believed he was returning to the ring and pegged the Rumble as the likely site of that return.
While Copeland had claimed he wasn't cleared to wrestle and hadn't been to Pittsburgh in years, he was simply trying to keep his return a secret. PWInsider.com is told he was flown this morning via private plane to Houston, at which point he was hidden away until it was time for his ring entrance.
We are told Edge will be working some special events going forward but he's not likely be wrestling on a weekly basis. He's going to be used as a special attraction, as he should be.
Edge was retired by WWE in April 2011 due to spinal stenosis but stated last year he felt he could wrestle if he wanted. He was physical in a WWE ring for the first time since 2011 at Summerslam last year in Toronto, spearing Elias.
