As reported earlier today in the Elite section of PWInsider.com, the word backstage at WWE Smackdown today in Brooklyn, NY is that WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champion Erick Rowan will be heading to Birmingham, Alabama this week for surgery to repair a bicep tear.
As PWInsider.com broke yesterday, Rowan suffered the injury during the Bludgeon Brothers' title defense against The New Day at Summerslam. Rowan did not work yesterday's live event in Atlantic City, NJ but is backstage at Smackdown, where the team is slated to defend against The New Day in a No DQ match.
The Bludgeon Brothers have been Smackdown Tag Team Champions since Wrestlemania 34. Rowan, 36, has been with WWE since signing a developmental deal in 2011.
