4/22 AND 4/23 NEW JAPAN'S ROAD TO WRESTLING DONTAKU 2024 RESULTS

April 22

From Korakuen Hall, Tokyo Japan,

They opened the show with highlights from shows in Chicago, Taiwan and Japan, specifically Jon Moxley winning the IWGP World Title from Tetsuya Naito, then getting attached by Ren Narita and Shota Umino making the save.   Both Narita and Umino are in line for Title matches.

1 - Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI and Katsuya Murashima vs. KENTA, Chase Owens and Taiji Ishimori

Ishimori forces Murashima to tap out to a Bone Lock.

2 - Hikuleo, Jado, El Phantasmo and Shoma Kato vs. Kosei Fujita, Shane Haste, Mikey Nichols and Zack Sabre Jr.

TMDK comes to the ring with their new belts.  Haste and Nichols come to the ring with the New Japan Strong Tag Team belts which they won at Windy City Riot.   Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Matt Riddle for the New Japan World TV Title.  

Fujita forces Kato to submit to a Boston Crab.   

3 - Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano, Shota Umino and Boltin Oleg vs. Dick Togo, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Yujiro Takahashi, Ren Narita and EVIL

SHO has been out due to injury.

Kanemaru pins Oleg with a Victory Roll.

House of Torture pose with the NEVER Titles which they will challenge for tomorrow night.

4 - Gedo, Clark Conners, Drilla Moloney, Gabe Kidd and David Finlay vs. BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Yota Tsuji, Shingo Takagi and Tetsuya Naito

Hiromu traps Gedo his is submission that he calls "D".   Gedo taps out.  

5 - Gauntlet Match:  Just 5 Guys vs. United Empire

Yuya Uemura begins against Great O-Khan.    Both men battle to a draw.   Both are eliminated.

SANADA vs. Jeff Cobb is next.  Both men fight to a draw.   Both are eliminated.

TAKA Michinoku vs. Callum Newman is up.   Newman pins TAKA after an Oscutter.   TAKA is eliminated.

DOUKI comes to the ring to face Newman.  DOUKI forces Newman to submit to the Italian Stretch #32.   Newman is eliminated.

Francesco Akira is next to face DOUKI.   DOUKI pins Akira with the Jorge Rivera Special.   Akira is eliminated.

TJP is out next.    TJP hits a Mamba Splash and pins DOUKI.    

Taichi is the last man out.   It is down to TJP and Taichi.   Good wrestling.   

TJP pins Taichi with a cradle small package.

United Empire wins the Gauntlet Match.

Good win for TJP.   If the idea was to get over the idea that TJP was the new leader of United Empire, then they did a good job with this match.   

Loud chant for TJP after the match.

TJP takes the mic and says there are lots of leaders and captains in United Empire.

TJP looks at Great O-Khan and says "KOPW Champion.  Captain"

TJP looks at Jeff Cobb and says "Jeff Cobb. TV Champion.  Captain"

TJP looks at Akira and says "Akira. Best of the Super Juniors.  Captain"

TJP looks at Newman and says "Newman. G1.  Captain"

TJP says "Crowns up".   They pose in the ring.    The crowd chants "EMPIRE, EMPIRE, EMPIRE"

Very cool segment to end the show.

April 23

From Korakuen Hall, Tokyo Japan:

1 -  Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI and Shoma Kato vs. KENTA, Chase Owens and Taiji Ishimori

Ishimori forces Kato to tap out to the Bone Lock.

2 - Katsuya Murashima, El Desperado, El Phantasmo and Hikuleo vs. Kosei Fujita, Mikey Nichols, Shane Haste and Zack Sabre Jr.

Fujita forces Murashima to tap out to a Boston Crab.

3 - NEVER Openweight 6-Man Championship:   Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL, with Dick Togo vs. Boltin Oleg, Toru Yano and Hiroshi Tanahashi

Chris Charlton said that Boltin Oleg is no longer a young lion anymore.   

Lots of House of Torture shenanigans in this match.   Yujiro hits an Olympic Slam on Tanahashi.   Tanahashi kicks out.  Togo chokes out Tanahashi with a wire.  Yujiro goes for Big Juice but Yano saves him.   Kanemaru tries to spray Yano with the Suntory Surprise, but hits Yujiro instead.  Yano hits a low blow on Kanemaru.   EVIL hits a low blow on Yano.   Tanahashi hits a low blow on EVIL.  Tanahashi kicks Togo to the floor.    Oleg picks up Yujiro and hits a Kamikaze Slam.   Tanahashi hits a High Fly Flow.

Tanahashi pins Yujiro

Boltin Oleg, Toru Yano and Hiroshi Tanahashi retain the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Championship.

The next series of matches are single bouts between Los Ingobernales de Japon vs. Bullet Club War Dogs.

4 - Yota Tsuji vs. Gedo

Gedo tries to hit Tsuji with brass knuckles.  Tsuji ducks and hits a Gene Blast.   

Tsuji pins Gedo in 5 seconds.

5 - BUSHi vs. Gabe Kidd

BUSHI sprays Kidd with the black mist.  Kidd fights back and hits a piledriver.

Kidd pins BUSHI.

6 - Shingo Takagi vs. Clark Conners

Takagi pins Conners after a Pumping Bomber.

7 - Tetsuya Naito vs. Drilla Moloney

Naito was about to submit Moloney with a head scissors choke.   David Finlay comes to the ring to distract the referee.   Jake Lee from Pro Wrestling NOAH jumps in the ring and attacks Naito.  Lee was still wearing his Good Looking Guys T-shirt from NOAH.   Lee hits a big boot to Naito's face.   Moloney hits a Drilla Killa on Naito.

Moloney pins Naito.

Finlay attacks Naito after the match.  Lee stomps on Naito.   Hiromu makes the save.   Lee drags Naito to the floor and puts him against the guardrail.   Lee makes a gun with his fingers targeting Naito and hits another running boot sending him into the crowd.

8 - HIromu Takahashi vs. David Finlay

This was a good match. 

Finlay hits Overkill.   Finlay pins Hiromu.

War Dogs beat down Hiromu.   Shingo and Tsuji makes the save.    Finlay, Moloney and Kidd leave LIJ laying in the ring.  

In the backstage interview area, David Finlay said that he was going to take out Naito and brought in Jake Lee.   Finlay says Jake Lee will be in the main event on Friday 04/26/24, in the 5 on 5 match between LIJ and War Dogs.
