TNA's John Gaburick announced the following via his Twitter this afternoon:
"TNA Impact Wrestling has released Awesome Kong. We wish her well in her future endeavors."
As PWInsider.com broke last week, TNA sent Kong home last week on the first day of the UK tour after Kong physically assaulted Reby Hardy when she took issue with Hardy dressing in the women's locker room. The belief is the issue was sparked by a personal situation where the women went back and forth at each other several years back on social media after Kong knocked Hardy on a www.KayFabeCommentaries.com "Youshoot" DVD.
The TNA website also featured a statement from Gaburick, acknowledging the incident. "“We conducted an investigation and determined releasing Awesome Kong is the appropriate action in this case,” said Gaburick in the statement on ImpactWrestling.com. “Kong has been a great contributor to TNA and helped solidify the Knockouts as the best female division in professional wrestling. We thank her and wish her well.”
Kong had left TNA in 2010 after an incident where she physically assaulted radio shock jock Bubba the Love Sponge backstage in Orlando, Florida after Bubba had made tasteless remarks in the wake of an earthquake in Haiti. She had a short run in WWE but returned to TNA at the onset of 2015. She had most recently been positioned as the leader of the Dollhouse.
Kong acknowledged her departure on her own Twitter, writing, "My time this round in TNA was fun. Time for me to move on to other things. #Released #HeadHeldHigh"
