I attended last night's WWE NXT event in Milwaukee at the Turner Ballroom, a venue that's hosted tons of wrestling over the years. It was completely sold out and for the first time I can remember, there were scalpers outside trying to sell tickets.
The big news of the night was that Kevin Owens appeared unadvertised to go face to face with longtime rival Sami Zayn for the first time since "injuring" Zayn at the WWE NXT Takeover event last year. Zayn defeated Tomasso Ciampa in a really good match before cutting a promo and saying that this was supposed to be where he had his last independent match before coming to NXT but it didn't happen. This led to Owens coming out to a huge reaction. Owens cut a promo saying he knows Zayn is angry with him but the reality is Zayn can't do anything about it because Owens is too important to WWE because he's been main eventing Raw and beating John Cena while Sami has been sitting home with injuries. Zayn finally had enough and nailed a Yakuza Kick to send Owens out of the ring. Zayn took the mic and said Owens can have Raw and Smackdown, because he has NXT, which got a big roar.
Overall, it was the usual strong show you'd expect from the NXT roster. Here are the complete results of the rest of the show:
*NXT Tag Champions Dash & Dawson defeated Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady. Big reaction for the Enzo and Cass act on the mic.
*Carmella defeated Alexa Bliss. I couldn't get over how tiny Bliss was in person. Carmella forced her to tap.
*Elias Samson defeated Bull Dempsey. Dempsey wore a cheesehead to the ring, since he was in Wisconsin. The crowd loved that. Pretty much comedy. Samson entered from the bar of the Hall.
*NXT Women's Champion Bayley defeated Nia Jax with the Bayley to Belly suplex. Good match with Bayley fighting from underneath as Jax pretty much dominated early. Not as good as the Takeover match but fun.
*Zayn vs. Ciampa was next. Ciampa got a huge reaction since he's local and they really took it too each other with some stiff strikes and chops and some awesome near falls.
*Eva Marie defeated Peyton Royce. Eva is still rough in the ring but you can see she's getting her character down. The place just hated her. Royce looked better here then she's looked on TV.
*NXT Champion Finn Balor defeated Baron Corbin and Apollo Crews in a Triple Threat Match with the Coup de Grace off the top on Corbin. Corbin tried to let the others fight early and then interfere, leading to them teaming.
Great, intimate show. It felt more like a good ECW show than a WWE event.
