HYPE BROS VS. VAUDEVILLAINS & MORE: 1/14 WWE NXT IN WINTER HAVEN, FL REPORT

By Andrew Twiss on 2016-01-15 09:29:32

Here are full results from NXT Live in Winter Haven, FL on January 14, 2016.

Your hosts are Tom Phillips and Alex Reyes

- Rich Swann def. Alexander Wolfe. - Solid opener. The match was mainly Wolfe using European uppercuts and submission holds to ground Swann. Swann would eventually make a comeback and win with a 450 splash from the second turnbuckle.

- Cameron, Billie Kay (w/Sylvester Lefort), and Daria "The Jersey Devil" def. Liv Morgan, Aliyah, and Adrienne Reese. - The match was okay in some places and a little rough in others. Considering the relative experience of most of the people in there, it was about what you would imagine.

- Tom Phillips came out to talk about how 2016 is going to be a big year for NXT. He then proceeded to introduce one of the new stars, 2015 Tough Enough winner Bronson Mathews  (formerly Josh Bredl). The two did a very weird interview with Tom asking questions and Bronson rambling about being Big Action. It's hard to describe this interview because Bronson looked kind of out of it and was just repeating things and saying Big Action Bronson Mathews all the time. It was quite odd.

- Steve Cutler def. Alex Riley - Decent enough match. Riley is playing the bitter veteran who hates being in there. The work in the match was solid, but nothing spectacular. Riley is quite big in person though.

- Angelo Dawkins def. Tino Sabbatelli - Another ok match. Tino looked decent and is getting more comfortable in the ring. Dawkins was working as a face in this match. It's a little odd for him since he works heel so often. It takes away one of his best attributes, which is his trash talking abilities.

- Asuka def. Emma (w/Dana Brooke) - Good match. Lots of stiff kicks from Asuka and Emma is always solid. Dana was awesome taunting at ringside and just being over the top.

- Levis Valenzuela def. Riddick Moss - Another decent match. Levis has tons of charisma and uses his dancing skills to make even a side headlock fun.

- Hugo Knox and Tucker Knight def. Sawyer Fulton and Marcus Louis - I was surprised how much the crowd was into it. It was also surprisingly decent. These two teams have been working on an off for various house shows, so we'll see if it leads on anything. The end was a little scary as Hugo went to hit a split legged moonsault on Marcus Louis. He left Marcus too far away, so instead of landing flat on him, only Knox's feet hit Marcus Louis. It looked it may have legitimately hit Marcus right in the head.

- The Hype Bros def. The Vaudevillains - Before the match, The Vaudevillains cut a promo about the crowd chanting "You deserve it" to Dawson and Wilder after they won the tag titles, even though they nearly broke Aiden's leg and split Gotch's head open. The match itself wasn't good. God help me, I'm enjoying Mojo Rawley. He makes the Hype Bros interesting. His energy works so well in a tag team. The work in here was solid.

Notes

- The overall work was decent enough, but the lack of star power hurt the audience a bit. It was sometimes hard to get the crowd into a bunch of matches with people they've never seen.

- The meet and greet before the show was: Tino Sabbatelli, Aliyah, and Liv Morgan

- NXT returns to Winter Haven on May 21st.
