HOW WRESTLERS MYSTERIOUSLY END UP UNDER THE RING, KEY TO HULK HOGAN'S POPULARITY AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-11-13 10:00:34
I was just curious if WWE Network has any plans to do a look at the life and career of Eddie Guerrero to acknowledge the 10 year anniversary of his passing?

Based on the programming listed for this weekend, that is not scheduled.

When wrestlers pop out from under the ring, like kane or undertaker has many times in the past, how long ahead of time are they under the ring? Also, how do they get under there without being seen and spoiling it for the live audience?

Sometimes, WWE will send a number of ring technicians down to the ring to work on the ring and the person who has to be hidden will come down with them dressed like them and slide under the ring. Other times, WWE will have the lights turned down really low as they are preparing for that spot to allow someone to be brought down to ringside. Very rarely are they hiding under the ring for hours.

Love the site. I grew up watching Hulk Hogan and Hulkamania running wild all over the place. To this day I don't understand what was so special about a guy who pretty much, seemed to me, wrestled only a handful of shows a year. Through my youth, I believe the only time I seen him on television was during cut promos whenever his adversary was killing a jobber. Credit is given to Vince and to Hogan himself on the character. However it always came across to me that the likes of Andre the Giant, Roddy Piper, hell even Sgt Slaughter made the Hulk Hogan character. Had the fans not hated them so much, would they have cheered so loudly for Hulk? I've heard the likes of Piper, Big Bossman, Jim Duggan, and even The Bushwackers get some enormous pops when their music hit. Do you believe Vince and the WWF could have made a Hulk Hogan using any one other of the baby faces they had back in the day? Better yet, do you believe Hulkamania would be as successful as it was in today's wrestling world had it just started out over the last couple of years? The only reason I ask is because Hogan was pushed more like an unstoppable superhuman than John Cena has been and it seems a lot of people hold that against Cena, but still proclaim Hogan to be a legend. Thanks!!

You certainly are correct in that those who were villains and their work helped make Hogan more popular ESPECIALLY Roddy Piper, but there's no question that Hogan worked hard and was the man who drove the cart for WWF during that time period. Hogan wasn't on TV beyond Saturday Night's Main Event but that was part of marketing - to keep him special so that people would want to pay to see him at live events and PPV. I don't think the WWF national expansion would have worked as well as it did without Hogan.

Absolutely love the site it's part for my daily routine! Do you know if WWE is actively trying to launch the network in the Philippines? It's a big market for them in terms of television hours. Also when did they last tour the country and are there any plans to?

I haven't heard a game plan for The Philippines yet but it won't be coming until sometime in 2016 at the earliest.

I didn't read it on PWInsider.com, but do you know about the former Gunner working for WWE? I saw a mini-documentary about Axel Tischer / Alexander Wolfe on german television and in some Performance Center footage there was obviously Gunner working with a talent on a match. Do you know if he is/was just there as a guest trainer like others in the past or is he working full-time there as a coach or maybe receiving some sort of tryout?

I believe Gunner was at the Performance Center for a tryout at the time. He has not signed a WWE NXT deal, to the best of my knowledge but given that he had been signed to a developmental deal in the past prior to his TNA run, he could always be on the WWE radar.
