WWE BRINGING BACK THE GUEST HOST GIMMICK FOR RAW, LARAE IN NXT, DOUG GILBERT AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2015-10-30 10:00:00
I try to catch RAW every week but haven't watched Smackdown in a decade. Am I missing anything?

Well, you missed the debut of Tyler Breeze and usually there are quite a few good matches. With DVR technology, no reason to miss the show!

Just read WWE's list of new signees, and was disappointed to see that Candice LeRae was not on it. What in the world is WWE waiting for? She has a great look and is an amazing worker. Do you think she'll eventually be signed, especially since her boyfriend (deleted) is already at NXT?

I don't think whether LaRae is in a relationship with another performer or not should have any bearing as to whether she gets signed somewhere. WWE has taken a look at her in the past but hasn't decreed they want to sign her yet. I think it's just a matter of her not having a fan in the company yet who's pushed for her to be signed. LaRae isn't alone as there are a lot of talented wrestlers who I remain shocked about when the company brings them in for tryouts and then doesn't sign them.

Do you think 2K could ever release a videogame specifically about WCW or ECW?

They would have to negotiate the rights with WWE, but certainly they'd be able to. Whether WWE would want to sign off on such a game remains to be seen. I don't know how such a potential game would sell, but it'd be cool to see the final product. I'd love to play the Wargames!

Do you wish Raw would bring back the Guest Host gimmick? I liked the show a lot more?

Actually, no. I think the idea was hard to maintain and while there were hosts I enjoyed personally (The Muppets!) there were far more often hosts no one cared about and hosts who acted like they were there for the check and nothing more. I'd rather see WWE re-invest in themselves instead of writing a check for someone to appear and not care.

I am watching Wrestlewar '89 and The Great Muta was supposed to wrestle Junkyard Dog but instead he faced some guy named Doug Gilbert. Where was Dog and who is Gilbert?

My guess is that JYD ended up no-showing as he was gone from the company about that time and his personal issues are well documented. Doug Gilbert is the son of Southern star Tommy Gilbert and the brother of the late Eddie Gilbert. He's probably best known as portraying the Dark Patriot in GWF and ECW. He had a nice run in Memphis and in Japan as well.
